Update - we hit a high of 97 today - a bit of a cool spell for mid June in central Kalifornia - took 45 minute run through the foothills and the AC in Auto mode kept everything cool. There was a high amount of heat loading from the sun - you can feel it on your chest as others have mentioned, fans ran slow. I had closed the rear seat vents.
Our real test will be this week - then Ill know for sure. Also, our X5 is in the garage all the time - so there is no heat load build up that the AC has to overcome - pretty sure that is an issue impacting some of you unfavorably. |

I will be posting our local temps and AC performance over the next few days. My main effort will be to provide some real world commentary vis a vis a design flaw or not.
I took an hour run today - 100 F - AC had no problems whatsoever in keeping the cabin cool. I had the Auto feature active - temp set to 74. Tomorrow will be much hotter - we'll know more then. Socal2025 - looks like you are running a 2014 diesel - so I guess my comments on a new 35i may not be all that relevant to a '14 model - who knows how many changes have been made.. Unfortunately, I think it is best that I refrain from further comment for the time being.
Once everything on my end is resolved I will give an update.

Sunday afternoon update - minor cool spell continues - we hit 106F and I did a 45 minute run. AC was set on Auto mode initially @ 74F - X5 was getting too cold - bumped it up to 76F. Low fan speed and very comfortable.
I did try the MaxAC button for about 5 seconds - waaaay, waaaay too much air - more than needed. I guess the only thing this may "prove" / suggest is that on the 2017 X5 35i there is not a vehicle wide design flaw. Granted, I am a sample of 1. Last edited by Apple Corps; 06-18-2017 at 08:16 PM.. |

33c in The Netherlands today. Took around 10 mins at max, with rear off to make any effect. I would not want to do that more than a few weeks a year - more back-up to the OP's view I am afraid!

That is only 91F - Our X5 is handling 106F with no problem - not sure what to make of the conflicting reports....

Five hours spent in the 2015 X5 xDrive 35i this weekend, driving around in 95F-100F weather. Had to keep it on 67F to prevent my fingers from freezing. Sunroof was closed, including closing the cover. Windows are tinted 23% in the front, no tint on the windshield, rest of the car is 3% tinted. Car was parked OUTSIDE, all vents open.
I do have to say that once I had a 50i xDrive as a loaner and the A/C didn't work quite as well as my 35i did. So I do think there's different A/C designs or different A/C behavior based on year/model. Are there components in our cars we can check to see if we're dealing with different A/C component brands? Be happy to look at mine... |

I leave the AC on Auto - normally runs on a low & quiet speed.
OK - for the Monday afternoon update - 1 hour run through the Sierra foothills - high temp of 109 F - dropped a little in some areas to a chilly 107 F. AC temp set on 74 and Auto mode - as above, fan speed was low & quiet for 95% of the time - it crept up to a middle speed for a few minutes but was barely noticeable. It maintained the set temp without any apparent effort and the X5's temp gauge stayed right at 230 F even through some more spirited driving - most impressive cooling system. The max AC button was tried once for about 10 seconds but it was a blizzard hurricane - high volume air and cold. This will conclude my "testing" as I am 115% satisfied with the performance of the AC as well as the cooling system. If the temps get much above 110 F we tend to re-think our plans in favor of our home AC. The more I think about it the more variables I see at play. I guess all I can really say is my 2017 X5 35i's AC & cooling system rocks!! Other's MMV and I hope they get their issues resolved - there is too much to love about these vehicles to lose them over AC. Last edited by Apple Corps; 06-19-2017 at 11:04 PM.. |

GNALUZU - you are forecast for 120 F tomorrow - ugggg.
That makes our 110 F feel like a cold spell Hope you get some positive news on getting your AC issue resolved - your temps are really brutal. A number of years ago we were meeting relatives just west of you at the Wigwam - 119 F - thought we were going to die once we got into the car that was baking in the lot for several hours. |

Agree there is an issue. In the northeast summer I bake in mine. I'm very convinced it's the windshield. You can feel the heat coming through it. I'll be tinting mine as soon as I can. 2015 diesel.

I do not believe it is the windshield - I can feel the radiant heat when the sun is coming trough the windshield - the AC easily offsets it.
A northeast summer is a cakewalk compared to what we experience here in the Central Valley of California or Phoenix. I know of what I speak as we lived in Rhode Island for a number of years. A more likely issue may be a "cold weather" AC package in your build as others have mentioned. |

Will tinting the windshield with the clear film affect the HUD in any way?

I believe that may depend on what tint you put in - I read a thread somewhere that the ceramic tint did not affect the hud.

should we also be factoring in the fact that different people have different tolerances to heat? I for one am "allergic" to heat..i sweat like a pig in the summertime when its hot and humid out. I find the a/c in the car sufficient enough for the northeast summers (cannot attest to central cali summers tho)
we had a stretch of 90+ degree days here recently... car parked in the sun run max a/c as i set out.. after abt 5 minutes of driving my kids in the back are already complaining that its cold. I push it to 70 and all is well. not to say that the a/c is perfect and there could very well be issues with other peoples systems... like to see how this turns out for the OP. **will provide an update later on this summer once the season kicks into high gear.. right now its too much of a mixed bag.** Last edited by DC X3M40i; 06-20-2017 at 11:29 AM..
