Fender slits

Does BMW from the factory do anything here? or is just the boring slit?

I feel they are functional to cool the brakes but wish they had some trim and not some stuck on ebay stuff.

Also, the front bumper turbo intake seems to have a hole for air juston the drivers side. Is this normal?

There’s a thread discussing this topic just a few down from this one. Here’s a direct link to that thread…and about 9 posts down…you’ll see pics and a suggested vendor: https://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=2050710

There is a hole for the turbo to breathe, but none of the drivers side.

Yes, the grilles can be different depending on which bumper, which engine, which options you have.

I don't know which bumpers you have...but if you go to realoem.com or bimmercat.com and pull up these parts...you'll see in the supplemental information that it has different part nbrs depending on which options you have.

Examples:

If you have these bumper grilles...#6 is open & #7 is closed:

If you have these bumper grilles...#4 is open on the left & right...but #5 can either be open or closed on the left or right depending on options you have:

For the turbo to breathe... Oh lord.

I pray you're not talking about the tow hook hole.

If you look up where the turbos are on the N63/S63, you'll know that's not the case.

The vents under the fogs... X5M in that picture, go to cool the brakes and radiators.

Not the tow hook hole - brake cooling? why only one hole and not on both sides?

It's normal on US Spec 50i's, I have no idea on Canadian spec models as they seem to be quite different after that M Sport vs M package thread I commented in. The 35i has closed/fake vents on both sides, again in the US at least.

You could retrofit the open grill on the driver's side. Some here have done it but have commented it's a complete PITA to swap.

So did some reading up.

I think the v8s have the open grills for cooling.
the 6 cylinders do not need them, and get away with the closed grills to increase aero dynamic efficiency.

It’s only one side on the 50i because there is only one extra radiator there. If you look inside the opening you will see it.

The brakes are cooled from the main lower grille opening via 2 plastic ducts.

You can also source the euro version and have matching left and right openings like many of done. If you search you will see this topic is covered in depth with part numbers.
