ISTA New Installation Error is Not Recognizing VIN Issue

Curious, as a new ISTA user, I am having issue with the error of not recognized VIN or not registered. What could cause this, anyone know. Thanks.

I had the similar issue with 4.39.20 on Windows 11 Home, and fixed it by installing both x86 and x64 Microsoft VC++ redistributables.

ISTA VIN No recognized

I looked deeper into the issue, and yes, it was a missing change in computer settings. Evidently I needed a couple updates in win11 added. Thanks for your input, and yes, I know about the adding both and not just 64 and frame was updated.

The issue now is I cannot find the tree window in operations? Tried everything but no diagnostic tree shows up in window? Trying to figure it all out as I am new to ISTA.

Do a full identification. Should automatically put you in the diag module status tree after it completes.

After BMW upgraded my I-level on the F15 I'm having an error with identification as well. Need to get a newer ISTA version I think. Never had a problem before and still works fine on all our older BMWs.

ISTA Diagnostic Tree Missing

Greetings,

Thanks for your input, and that seems to be also missing as it does not appear to run properly, so tree does not appear. Question, I am using ISTA on an F15, so does the switch on the K+DScan cable work on F15 and what position should the switch be in? Right of Left? Or do I need Ethernet only cable?

Thanks,

I don't think ISTA works on F series with USB K+DCAN cable unless you have E and or MINI R series. You have to use E-NET or ICOM cables for F.

Thanks, I was thinking that this might be the issue. I will try it on my E70 to see if it works differently. Do you happen to know about the switch setting on my K+DCAN cable, I thought of this, but switched both ways with no effect.

My K+DCAN jumper switch is at the left most (when you see it with cable's OBD port facing up). This works for my MINI R52. Also, another important thing is COM# in [OBD] section in the file of obd.ini in your ISTA installation folder e.g. C:\EC-APPS\ISTA\Ediabas\BIN

e.g.

[OBD]
Port=Com3
Hardware=USB
RETRY=ON
...

matches the USB K-DCAN COM# in your PC's device manager, also make it's latency is set to 1.

ISTA

Thanks again, will check this out. I recall changing it, but I ordered Ecom cable just in case to work on my F15 40e.

I can confirm the usb K+DCAN works on the F-Series.

I just monitored tranny temps the other weekend, reset trans adaptations & cleared faults, using this connection.

Thank you for correcting and sharing this.

When I started to use ISTA and read the instruction, the section of INTERFACES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS (1st post's PDF file at the end) at

https://www.bimmerfest.com/threads/b...w-ista.936877/

states that ENET for F and K+DCAN for E series.

ENET (Ethernet-to-OBDII) cable adapter is definitely faster.

I have an ICOM, as well. This is a third method of connection. That is used for programming and updating. You can get into plenty of trouble with this connection. lol

ICOM is definitely versatile/universal for diagnosis, coding, retrofit, software upgrade/programing.

Also, the latest or newer release of ISTA, e.g. 4.39.20, claims to be able to do all the above with ENET which used to be only for diagnosis in iSTA and uses E-SYS for others, liked coding/programming.
