4-zone Climate control

I'm considering placing an order before year end. I'll post a spec later tonight for comments please

Anyone state experience of the 4 zone climate control? Is it more effective ? Quicker cooling ? Or is it simply a case of adjusting your own temp/air flow but the overall kW performance of heating/cooling is the same ?

4-zone only has to do with the rear controls. You get two extra independent controls for the back seat instead of it being a slave to the front.

I have it, and there are no vents in the B-pillars if I remember correctly. My car is in the shop, so I can't show you at the moment, but I will take a picture once I get it back.

You're probably right, I just need to verify it since I never sit in the back, lol. I'll take pics when I get my car back so he can see.

It does give you vents in the b-pillars and 3rd row if you spec.

I also seem to remember from a previous post that it affects the lighting on the outer front thumb-wheel controls (but I may have this wrong ).

initially I had the same debate if I need to take it or not..

I had black dakota and it costs 1450$

Adding Premium Package for $2550 gives me
1. 1450$ worth of black dakota seats
2. Comfort Access keyless entry and 4-zone for 1100$

So if you are taking dakota leather seats, its worth the upgrade for 1100 because you will see the ease in comfort access and comfort in 4-zone.

Yes, it has vents on the side pillars and if you keep the air in full flow, you will definitely notice the difference in flow because you will be having air coming in both ways..

Thanks for confirming, and yes it does add the lighting to the outer front thumb wheel controls. @r33 took his apart to show that there was no light for those that didn't have 4-zone.

I think it's worth having ! I don't have it in my f10 and in the summer I always feel the car takes ages too cool down.... And that's a British summer - hardly a stringent test !!!

It's worth it, 4-Zone and Comfort Access alone is worth getting the package, SAT radio? Not so much, so if you are already getting leather seats, might as well add it and get 4-Zone.
My only complain is I wish there was a "Rear Off" button on the dash instead of having to go through menus and sub menus, I don't think we can program one of the buttons to rear-off, I remember trying and it didn't work for me.

Also, even if you turn off the fan in the back, hitting sync button turns it back on, waste of resources if there is nobody in the back.

Agreed. I wish it had its own button to turn it off so that we can SYNC the front only and have the back off.

Agreed on the button on dash.
Agreed on waste of resources.

Every other car I've seen with rear climate has front control of some sorts.

In my E70 and E71 I was able to program a button to the menu where you select rear zone on/off. So I had to hit memory button, then click on the idrive to turn it off/on. That was a function that I performed a lot.

Can you or someone walk me through how to exactly set one of these 8 buttons on the dash to program this. I haven't programmed them to anything, and they seem very useful for all of these features .

Put the idrive selection on what you want the button to do, then hold down the button for a few secs. Like if you want it to go to audio settings, push the button when the selector is hovering on 'audio settings', not when you're already on the audio settings screen. You can program most stuff, but not everything.

I think I had my sister's cell, my son's cell, climate control and something about radio options that would take me into the control to pause/tick back/tick forward for the satellite radio. I think that one was the one I used most followed by my sister's phone.

Oh, and a neat thing that they did is if you put you finger on a button but don't press it, some text shows at the top of the iDrive screen that will tell you what the button does. That's SO helpful when you can't remember what you set on your less-used buttons.
