I just got back from the Performance Center Delivery of my 2014 X5. This was my third PCD and it was just as great an experience as the other two. I'm a bit tired from my 1200 mile drive home, so I'll post some pics and add more info to this thread over the next day or so.

Thanks to everyone for the congratulations and kind words.

There are a few different parts of the delivery experience. My wife and I did the track portion first which starts with a classroom session. We then were able to go out on the track with an X5 very much like the one we were about to pick up. Attached is a pic of the X5 we drove. We did an emergency braking test at 35, 40, and 45 mph and also a fun circuit with a short slalom. The instructor (Paul) gave us some tips on how to go faster. The X5 is surprisingly nimble for such a big vehicle.

We also got to drive a 335i sedan on a wet skidpad with and without traction control. It's a great demonstration of how effective those safety systems can be.

Finally, our instructor took us on a hot lap in the E92 M3 including power sliding (drifting) on the skidpad. Awesome car and great driver car control.

On a side note, the X5 we drove was the Sparkling Brown color with the two-tone ivory and black interior. When I first saw the car, I thought it was black. It is a very dark color. I could only tell it was brown later in the day when it was sitting in direct sunlight. I thought people who are considering the brown should be aware of how dark it is. I thought about the brown when I was choosing colors. After seeing how dark it is, I'm glad I went for a lighter color. The interior was nice, although if I were going for a light interior color, I'd go with the Ivory Napa Design package.

After the track experience, I took delivery of my new X5. The original pics in the post are from the delivery bay. Our specialist was Nick and he was excellent. He went over all the systems in detail and was able to answer any questions that I had. He had already activated the satellite radio and we did a test call to set up the BMW Assist.

Afterwards we had lunch in the on-site cafe and then went out to the off-road course.

We took the same X5 from the morning session onto the course. The instructor (Arnie) was in an X3 as were the other customers taking delivery that day. The off-road course featured a water crossing, hill climb and hill descent, deep ruts, and sections where one or two wheels of the vehicle would be completely off of the ground. It would be great for any X vehicle owner or prospective owner to see how capable these BMWs are in an off-road setting. This was my favorite part of the day. Arnie was pretty entertaining, as well.

Normally, a tour of the factory is included in the PCD. Unfortuately, the factory is closed to tours until the spring. I was able to tour the factory on my last PCD and it was very interesting. Highly recommended.

Instead, went to the Zentrum museum attached to the factory and saw a short film about the construction process. If you haven't been to the Zentrum, it's worth spending about 20 minutes checking out some of the BMW race cars and other vehicles on display.

Here are pictures of my new X5 in the "VIP parking area" at the Zentrum (it's actually just a sidewalk next to the building) and also in front if the Zentrum.

All in all, a great experience and lots of fun. Aside from European Delivery, I can't imagine a better way to take delivery of a new car. If you have the time do Performance Center Delivery, you should give it a try.

Any questions?

Here are some more pics of my Mineral White X5 xLine. The car is really fantastic; fun to drive, luxurious, and loaded with neat features. Here are some thoughts:

The Driver Assistance Package and Driver Assistance Plus are worth the money, IMO. The Driver Assistance Package comes with the Head-up Display and Rear-view Camera. The camera is a must in a vehicle this size and the Head-up Display works very well. It displays vehicle speed, Navi turn information, incoming phone calls, and entertainment info. I was surprised at how well the features of the Driver Assistance Plus worked. Both the lane departure and blind spot monitor "rumble" the steering wheel to alert you and both are tied to the direction signals. If you veer into another lane, the steering wheel will vibrate, but if you signal and then veer into the next lane, it won't. Also, if there is someone detected in the blind spot, a yellow triangle in the housing of the side view mirror will illuminate. If you then signal a lane change to that side, the yellow light will flash and the steering wheel will vibrate. Very slick. The Plus package also comes with Speed Limit info that tells you the posted speed limit in the area you are driving. This can be displayed in the instrument cluster or in the Head-up display. It works very well. The other feature is the Surround camera which gives a top-view of the car and its surroundings. Very helpful for parking.

The sound quality of the Harmon Kardon system is very good, better than the Logic 7 system in my 2009 335i coupe. I haven't heard the base stereo nor the B&O, but I'm happy with the sound quality.

I'm not sure what is different, but the iDrive controller with the Ceramic Controls option feels more substantial than the cars I've been in without it.

I've included a picture of the Space Saver Spare in case anyone is interested.

I've also posted some pics of the Running Boards. Definitely thinner than on the E70. I'm very happy about the looks of the xLine.

Multi-Comfort seats are excellent. I haven't really tried the seat ventilation.

I've included a close-up of the Mocha Nappa and Poplar Wood. Looks great to me. I'd like to see similar views of the Mocha and Pure. I was going back-and-forth between those choices.

I still haven't really explored the iDrive features or the BMW apps. I'll post more thoughts when I do.

I'd love to experience PCD, but most manufacturing plants are either in the east coast, south, or mid-west. A little too far for me to drive from to Cali. Congrats! Let us know what your think after you've had a for a month or two.

Drive it like you stole it. Dont worry, you'll understand when you get to the PC.

Lovely indeed. Nice clear pic's, great choice of options. The leather dash tops it off. Really enjoy the poplar trim, adds much richness with the leathers. The options you choose are probably better spent than the B&O.

First off, congrats! Beautiful car!

As far as the vibrating steering wheel goes...I think I might get annoyed after awhile. Is there an option to disable just the vibrating steering wheel?

Thanks! I'd still like to hear the B&O someday, just to see what I'm missing.

I know you can turn off the system entirely, but I'm not sure If you can just turn off the rumble. I'll check the manual.

So I ordered the spare tire to have on hand in case I need to evacuate...

I had planned on taking it out and using the extra storage space when I didn't need the tire with me.

But now seeing this photo it appears that if I get the spare, the compartment is unfinished/uncarpeted...can anyone confirm that I'm correct?

No spare: better looking compartment?

Spare: no carpet, just sheet metal?

Yes, if you don't get the spare you'll get a nice looking compartment. Extra Space and carpet inside the compartment. I drove the X5 last Saturday and I saw the compartment without the spare tire.

Thanks for the reply.

Anyone know the cost of the spare and jack outside of the purchase of the vehicle? I assume it's more than $150. Is this on the website somewhere?
