Good point. I've got some other pics I'll put in another thread to provide additional views.

I'm not sure so I'll ask. With limited options to attach a hitch; would the factory hitch, or other options, also require that this piece be replaced?

What brand are they, where did you buy them and about how much did you pay if you don't mind my asking? Would love to look into these someday in the future. Great setup! And for your BMW Performance carbon pieces, did you go to BMW for those or somewhere else? Soooo expensive through BMW. Thanks!

This post is devoted to the images of a very fine car I am driving since many years, the X5, so it's a nice place to once pay a tribute to one of most intelligently engineered cars I ever drove, the Corvette C5.

Please don't start shooting before reading the whole sentence... a Ferrari is a very well engineered car, but a modern Corvette is a real triumph of American engineering, because it offers similar performances for one third of the cost -- if you want to impress a girlfriend with your wallet, a Corvette may not work, but if you want to enjoy fast driving, the intelligent cost effectiveness of a Corvette just has no match, worldwide.

There's more to it: as much as I tried, I still could not lay hands on a Service Manual for an X5, a fiercely guarded document, whereas I easily got one for a Corvette, a multi-volume 1000 page manual that explains many fascinating intricacies of the Corvette software logic, way beyond the bare information needed to maintain/repair it.

I write this from an European perspective and German no-limit highways, where Corvettes are rare and quite misunderstood -- and where I never felt that car inferior to any other -- year after year, it could be peacefully driven at 140 mph and 3000 rpm for as long as traffic would allow it, just adding fuel and a little maintenance until family requirements dictated a larger car.
