X5 35d Ordered Today

Am in Germany for a couple years and brought my F30 over. F30 is a ton of fun but we want something to travel Europe in and then take back to the States with us. Thought we wanted a wagon but soon realized we didn't (still cannot figure out why BMW doesn't have a US-spec 5-series wagon). Compared X3 and X5 and, well, there is no comparison. So we ordered our X5 today through the military sales program and can not wait to get it. Here is the build:

35d
Imperial Blue Metallic
Ivory White and Black Dakota Leather
No line (I like the stock wheels and the black roof rails)
Cold Weather Package
Driver Assistance Package
Premium Package
Surround View
Multi Contour Seats
Comfort Rear Seats
Manual Rear Window Shades

The only option I really stressed over was the lighting package and, well, LEDs just aren't worth $2000 to me. I have adaptive xenon in my 328i and they are fantastic.

Estimated delivery to Germany is mid June... Is it June yet?

Congrats on your order. It will be a long 3 months but it is worth the wait! You'll love the 35d.

Just curious, what branch of the military?

Congrats! We ordered ours 2/29 and are doing Performance Center Delivery on 4/20.

We got no-line for the same reasons as you did.

June will soon be here. Built not to far from Lejeune where I did a bit of time with II MEF in 2011 and then Leatherneck. Been to Patch a few times as well.

Thanks for your service!

My father was in the army and as a result I was actually born in Germany, near Kaiserslautern. I've been back many times.

Nice. PCD would be awesome but just wasn't in the cards. I thought about doing BMW Welt in Munich. I will just be elated when we finally get it. Enjoy the PCD experience; I hear its awesome. Congrats!

Yut! I know Lejeune quite well. I feel sorry for anyone at Patch... I'm at Kelley.

It's a pretty great place Hans. We've only been here 6 months and I am already dreading going home in a couple years.

I need this thing to go into production because I go back and forth on the LEDs several times daily.

Not to throw in a monkey wrench but I have been told that U.S. spec led headlights can be coded to be even brighter than from the factory. I have xenon headlights in my E90 that do pretty good. The xenon headlights in her X3 don't seem to do the trick to me. BMW is pretty tight lipped on how much brighter led vs xenon lights are. Or they just don't know perhaps. I just want the brightest lighting available and am not interested in picking just for looks.

I hear ya. The aesthetics to me are irrelevant when it comes to the headlights. They both look great to me. It's the functionality of the two that I am debating and just haven't seen anything that says the LEDs are that much better... Or ANY better for that matter.

I've been going back and forth now on M-sport line now so I can get CBM. First world problems...

Just curious if you made a final decision on the headlights? And the M-Sport?

Thanks!

I did. Sticking with adaptive xenon. I really have not seen anything definitive that says LEDs are any better other than a bunch of people saying how much brighter their $1900 headlights are when I'm not convinced they've actually compared them to the xenons. I have adaptive xenons in my f30 and they are great.

We also switched to luxury line and 20" 451s. I really like those wheels. And there were two things that were really starting to bother me about the No Line. 1. The black wheel arches. And 2. While I liked the stock 19s well enough, there is just something about that look from the back about the 20s that I love. I'm going to have to buy a winter set now but that's ok.

you will be fine with Xenons, LED headlamps Have no future they say, read some articles that xenons do light better actuallly in the end and generaly speaking.

LEDs are just trendy and overpriced at the moment, LASER is the future some years later. until than Xenon are fine.

I did come from E70 xenons now to F15 xenons and boy they do shine better, I use additionaly LED foglights (+200$ option) when I drive late at night alone on the road and its perfect, unbelivable lighting combo.

if you ever come to Prague stop for X5 beer meet
I will be doing some autobahn speeding to Stuttgart next week )

Prague is on my list! We will be hitting that at some in the next year or so.

Where in Stuttgart you heading?

Appreciate the input on xenons v LEDs. I don't doubt that LEDs are great, I just don't think they are "$2,000 upgrade great."

So we originally changed our order (change #1) to Luxury Line and 20" Style 451 wheels... Well, after obsessing over it for about a month or two, I called last week and changed it again (change #2) to M-Sport Package and 20" Style 469m. Also now Carbon Black Metallic instead of Imperial Blue. It was a combination of a lot of things for me. I really prefer the look from the back with fat tires and squared exhaust. And all the black plastic was bothering me; I like all the painted bumpers side skirts. And finally I just think CBM is beautiful.

Changed it pretty much at the last possible moment because we got our VIN today. Production scheduled for next week...

You made a good decision on the Msport... The rears on the standard X5 whether it is a Xline or Lux line looks goofy as hell with skinny tires and small round exhaust pipes.

The Msport just looks mean in all aspects.

LED's are absolutely NOT worth $1,900 I mean the price already includes xenon adaptive lights and no way LED's justify an additional $1,900 over what you are already paying for xenon...therefore...I ordered the LED's anyway damn it! lol

I will say I did NOT like that the inside xenon headlights are fake man I just don't do fake. Congrats again on the 6/3 production brother!

Xenon lights are definitely fine for lighting up the road, but LEDs are the future. Be honest I still have not decided if the LED lights are worth it. The GFHB is great, but it's sort of gimmicky and be honest it doesn't really work that well when there are a lot of cars or when you're in the city where there is street lighting. It's only good on road trips at night, and I'm not on road trips 90% of the time. And if you don't like the incandescent turn signals, just get the LED replacements. In the grand scheme of things $1900 isn't that much, but still haven't decided if it was worth it.

The only thing it solved for me is that I'm a bit obsessive in that Xenon lights have start-up and shut down times for maximum life, so I would never use Auto lights since I didn't like them turning on just a minute when entering say an underpass and then turning off again. Or it would turn on in my garage and then after departing it would turn it. I also would avoid flashing people since again that entailed decreasing the life of the bulb. That bothered me a lot. It's funny because these bulbs are only like $50 on Amazon. With LEDs with instant on and no real life to worry about, I don't have to worry and it's safer for me in that aspect. Okay sorry for going so off topic.

8 months ago, I ordered a 2015 X5 and said no way to the $2500 (Canadian pricing) LED package. I ended up not taking delivery of that car back in November. So for the past 7 months, I have been driving my mother in laws 2014 BMW 535xi, equipped with LED headlights. And let's just say there was no way I was ordering my 2016 X5 without it after having it for 7 months and totally seeing the difference when driving at night.

Got some great news from our dealer today. As of 26 June she is on German soil and I am awaiting transport from Bremerhaven. I think I should take delivery by end of next week by the time dealer receives and preps. Fingers crossed.
