Oil drain plug crush washer oval
So I was about to change the oil on the x5 and noticed the oil drain plug washer that came with the mahle oil filter was oval. Is it normal? I became paranoid and threw it away but not before bending it... didn’t know these things are so soft but now I get why they’re called crush washers.
In any case, anyone recommend a good washer? Is the mahle washer supposed to be oval in shape. I did try to put it on the new drain plug and it didn’t fit... oil change will have to wait yet again The pic attached shows it warped, it was flat when I got it but was oval. I attempted to “straighten” it but made it much worse. |

So, I got in touch with fcpeuro where I got the mahle filter and was told that the washer is not intended for the oil drain plug but for the oil filter housing. I was reading somewhere that some x5s have a drain plug on the filter, mine doesn’t.
I assume the oil drain plug does need a new crush washer once replaced, correct? I’d hate to drain the oil and find out that I don’t have a washer to replace |

In my experience with my M3, the Mahle filters include both the oil filter housing washer, o-rings, AND the drain-plug crush washer. I submitted a Q&A to FCPEuro on the Mahle filter product page for the X5 filter for them to confirm that both washers are included with the filter, and if not to add the drain plug crush washer to the combo.
Edited to remove any potential mis-information. Last edited by JamesInSJ; 12-06-2019 at 12:00 AM.. |

Follow-up: FCPEuro said the Mahle filter does come with a drain plug (their words...I would have expected just the drain plug crush washer) and I asked that question specifically in the context of the filter product, not the entire oil change combo. Sounds like at the very least the crush washer was missing in the package.

edit: So I got new crush washers, this time from ecstuning and they don’t fit. i even asked the sales person on chat and confirmed that they would fit. Are all autoparts stores this incompetent, or am I asking for the wrong thing? I told them i need a crush washer for the oil drain plug and all send me this shit:
You can see how the washer is smaller in diameter than the drain plug |

The proper copper oil drain gasket ring part # is 07119963308 and it's a A18X22-CU - which means inside diameter is 18mm and outside diameter is 22mm.
This is the link to it: https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...308-7119963309 https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_In...-9-963-308-BOE The one you got probably part # 07119963132 is for previous gen. x5 and it's smaller A12X16-CU - it has 12mm inside diameter and 16mm outside diameter - of course it will not fit. |
