Just signed on a new one for the wife, and will be my tow machine when I go to the track.

Got it at invoice with loyalty, plus took advantage of security deposit to save another $1700!

Factory is closed so still can change options but so far

X line
Black sapphire
Black sensatec for the kids
Harmon sound
Rear camera
Tow package installed
Rear side shade

Ordered Diesel too...for the wifey
mine is Luxury...Imperial Blue + Mocha
Premium Package (a whole bunch of jazz in it- including cameras and Harmon) and 20" rings + rear comfort for kids...also in Canada the Winter package comes as standard...for obvious reasons...lol
we still have time to change it 100 times till next year...
did you get an estimate on when production for Diesel starts?

Good for you.

My dealer is saying that they now won't start production on the diesel until late February or early March, and he says there is no reason to even talk to him about putting in an order until January.

Did your dealer give you anything concrete in terms of commitments on a production date for your order?

Will be nice to get any more definitive build scheduling info from the factory with respect to the diesels. It mystifies me when parts of a company decide it is in their best interest to hide the ball when they have issues. Most people will wait if you are honest and if the reason for the delay is explained.

look at the bright side folks...we change our order 100 more times before it is actually locked in...so try to get as much insight as you can...that's what I'm doing... (currently debating between standard vs. comfort seats...)

This is a good point- normally I'd up sell myself significantly between order and production...but this go-round I was in production 4 days later, much to my surprise. In fact, be sure to have your latest spec in front of your CA, lest you end up in production before you realize it (they've been shifting allocations based on spec/part availability)!

Just read the WhatCar review of the X5: ... found this amusing "...although refinement leaves a little to be desired." ???

I just opened What Car's web page for the first time...I'm not sure to which car they are actually comparing the X5 with in terms of refinements...Range Rover/Land Rover...come on...are they even comparable???

by the way it's got 4/5 stars...so it is essentially not bad...the other report I sent focuses primarily on Diesel...more relevant to this topic...

Can anyone confirm that allocations are available to US dealers for the 35d now?

I just went into the dealership today to try and order one. According to the SOP (start of production), the diesel start date is suppose to be 12/13/13. Though there are NO ALLOCATIONS what so ever. My SA tried looking and couldn't find anything, she checked with the GM and there is some soft of delay and we won't be able to start ordering till FEB or MARCH....

Very disappointed...

Don't know how you were able to order Apex...but nice!

Are you saying you couldn't order a 35d???
This shouldn't have anything to do with ordering the vehicle...the only thing is that you would be in the first production batch...seems to be Jan/Feb build/delivery...

Correct -oh well...

If I'm waiting that long I might as well add the Macan to my list.

My dealer told me the same thing weeks ago: the start of diesel production has been pushed back to February or March, and might be even later.

I had the first edition of the X5 diesel some years ago, and it too was delayed going into production from what BMW originally announced. If I recall correctly, then it was because it took them longer than they expected to get clearance from all the various authorities (especially CARB here in California) on the emissions levels from the diesel. Perhaps the same thing is happening now

the thing is if you guys have really opted for the Diesel and want to order one, then you can, because at least you would be in the first line of production that is out.......otherwise, it might even take longer...and you can change your order if something comes up while you are waiting... the build-delivery will be in the same month..so if you are part of the first batch and it starts in Jan-Feb, you would get it in the same month...

Fair enough, except I can't get a dealer to even negotiate a deal for a diesel yet, and I don't want to place an order without having the deal firmly agreed to in advance. Made that mistake once many years ago only to have the dealer I placed the order through try to extort a king's ransom from me when the car arrived, so I then had to go to another dealer and start the order (and waiting for delivery) process all over again.
