Any other details for things that you've tried?
  • Does the noise respond increase/decrease/constant to engine revs?
  • Speed sensitive?
  • Isolated to the cluster or vents?
  • Have you tried manually changing vent setting fresh air, blowing on feet / windshield etc.
  • Roof open + cracking rear windows L & R?

Since it responds to the roof being open, I'm wondering if the noise is airflow across the internals of the air divider. The roof may increase cabin airflow pulling air past a slight gap or leak that is causing the noise.

I’m guessing a noise that’s coming from the sunroof but is reflecting making it sound like it’s coming from the dash

Had a rattle in my 2001 330Ci that I swore was coming from the back seat. Took a friend for a drive and he thought it was coming from the left rear passenger footwell. Turned out to be a loose moonroof shade. Only found it because I bumped my head on it while we were searching and it made the rattle noise. 😂

LOL - I think tfunk88 might be right. Leave it to my brain to overthink it.

It’s not the sunroof, definitely not but when I open it the air flow/pressure in the car changes and the noise stops immediately, I’ll play around with the A/C settings and windows and post updates, thanks for replying 💯

Does the noise stop when you open a window?

I have had vehicles with a hole in firewall behave like yours. The hole could be from a plug not in place, a punctured hole to pass a wire for something like a "hidden" radar detector, or a left out bolt.
