Fixed via coding: tailgate "slam!"

Stumbled upon this quick fix for the infamous tailgate slam, using custom values in 3020 HKL_KINEMATIC in the tailgate module. Pic 1 is my default, pic 2 is new values (I used bimmercode, purists can use e-sys, obviously).

The improvement is most apparent when closing while inside, the "slam!" is completely replaced with a soft touch, very equivalent of how soft close doors operate.

I'm in Bimmercode - Expert Mode - Tailgate Function Module - 3020. I don't see anything remotely resembling "KINEMATIK."

Gonna need more directions here...

What control unit is it under? Tailgate, Front Electronic Module?

What year is your X5?

For my 2018, under the tailgate for 3020 it's called APPL_Sensor. I searched for HKL_KINEMATIC but nothing came up.

Thanks for the post, I followed your directions and used Bimmer Code to code it. Now the tailgate closes softly like the doors

OMG...this is a great coding find! I just did the coding as I pulled into the garage tonight after reading this tip earlier today. The nice soft close of the tailgate brought a big ol' smile across my face as the tailgate slowed down just before fully closing...and then with a gentle “zzzzzzzz-click-zzzzz” the tailgate closed like a civilized-genteel grand madame.

I even stopped the tailgate at various opening heights and each time it slows down just before closing and actually soft closes.

BTW I used the IOS version of Bimmercode app (expert mode) on an iPad...and my X5 is a 2014...the images below shows the screen shots for my application in case some get confused if what they see isn’t exactly the same...you’re looking for the tailgate module...then the coding parameters:

Pic 1: connect & find tailgate module (or module that controls your tailgate)
Pic 2: select 3020 HKL_KINEMATIK
Pic 3: select DREHZAL_SEGMENT_SCHL
Pic 4: shows default selection for my 2014 which was wert_F15 & wert_F85
Pic 5: shows default values when CUSTOM VALUES tab is selected (prior to making changes in next pic)
Pic 6: using the keypad shown & delete button...pic shows changes to each BYTE selection to PARAMETER VALUES listed in the original post. (Hit CODE button and now enjoy the tailgate actually soft closing)

I noticed that this does impact my single touch open & close of rear tailgate negatively whereby it doesn't work anymore. In fact, I have to hold it down or up...

Anyone else experiencing this after this coding?

Impacts which aspect of your single touch...the button on the driver’s door or your remote?

The coding did not affect my door button nor my remote functions. The remote still has one touch open...but its coded for a couple of seconds press & hold to open (to prevent accidental opening). And to close using the remote has always been a long press until the tailgate closes. If I use the switch on the tail gate...its one-touch...and if I use the switch on the door...one-touch to close (if the engine isn’t running...can’t remember if it requires a press & hold if the engine is running).

If you’ve lost one-touch...go back and check your coding to see if somehow you lost the one-touch closing. If you’re using Bimmercode app...the one touch stuff is on the easy side...just go to the Tailgate module...from memory last night...there were 3 easy selections on my 2014 Tailgate module.

2015. Bimmercode shows what you're describing in the demo mode, so could be late model year change. If you have e-sys and know how to use it, I'd search for values in the respective ncd file.

Do you have the instructions using Esys? I have a 2017 and have the same issue as some where I do not have the option on BimmerCode. Can't find it there.

Its easy.
Just hop into ecu HKFP and there look for "drehzal_segment_schl"

No need to wait 10mins it changes right away even without tuning over ignition.

If you are new to esys just look for "esys beginners guide coding.pdf"

Just coded mine via BimmerCode. Nice "click" sound at the end when the soft close mechanism latch catches. Great find smyles 🤙🏽

Has anyone successfully coded this feature on a 2018? I'm using BimmerCode and in expert I don't see the same options as posted above.

I've been doing some research through both BimmerCode and Esys and cannot find this option. It seems that the modules changed 2017+ maybe even 2016. I notice that all that say it worked have a 2014 or 2015. I'm guessing its no longer available or a entirely different module to get this feature to work. I'll keep searching and trying different modules see if I can find anything.

Just coded it on my 2016. Curious is tweaking it will make it even softer?
