Where is Emrgency Battery on X5F15

Hi
With ISTA , I got the message : Emergency battery Interval change reached.

What is the emergency battery and where it is located on the car?

What does it look like?

What happens if I don't change it?

I've never heard of this one before, but at the back of the car in the trunk space immediately after you lift up the floor panel you should see a plastic cover with five 8mm bolts to remove. Upon removal of this cover, you'll see the main battery on the left side from your direct view, and if there's an emergency battery of sort, I'd reckon it's that smaller backup/reserve battery on the right. Not all X5's have that, but if your X5 comes optioned with a lot of things, you should have that extra reserve battery. That's the only battery that I know to be present other than your main battery on this car. And if you've already accessed ISTA to know of this fault, then just follow the ISTA procedure throughout the replacement. You'll be registering the battery on that ISTA procedure. If you don't go through the registry, you'll have intermittent battery cut-off issues, the car's clock will reset for few seconds, and some of the electronics will act weird, too. A lot of your coded features will return to default values, etc. I learned all this from the E90 car, and now I have ISTA and from previous lessons learned, I don't know what it'll do to the F-series cars, so your result may vary. In summary, follow those steps to the teeth and you'll be golden. Hope this will help. Happy motoring, bro.

This is the message i got, on the ISTA screen.

Could you remind me how to do to have the ISTA procedure throughout the replacement?

This is battery for TCU or ATM module for emergency phone call (SOS button). It is located inside of the module. This is not auxiliary battery.

Marc412 - there is probably no need to replace the emergency battery because the system is no longer functional.

this thread has many helpful links

Ditto the two replies above. When you wrote emergency battery, I thought the SOS system. Then when I ran the hex codes you posted through the BMW fault code site (B7F343)…it verified that the message was from the TELEMATICS module. The small battery next to the main battery below the cargo floor is your auxiliary battery.

If your vehicle had 3G connectivity…all of those features are dead….so replacing the battery in a moot point at this time in the game.
