Help Needed!!!

Hello my Bimmer Fam. I come to you for help seeing that I am the furthest thing to a mechanic. I drove my X5 F15 for about 7 mins today and noticed smoke coming from under the hood. The smoke was not thick and I did not get any smell to it.

Video of smoke: https://youtube.com/shorts/66INUMCAm04?feature=share

Pics With Enginge Cover Off attached.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!

probably your valve cover gasket leaking onto other stuff and burning off.

Thanks for your response. Is this an expensive fix and also if it is the valve cover gasket, is it ok to drive the car until I get it repaired?

Agree with sukhk527 . Most likely a valve cover gasket leaking oil onto the manifold/exhaust. And given there are probably 1,000,000 BMWs on the road at any given time with a leaking VC gasket you are probably okay to drive it for awhile.

But oil does burn if you get enough of it on there... so don't put it off forever. Cost depends on model. But I'm guessing $800-1200. Never paid someone to do the job so maybe someone who has can chime in.

Agree on valve cover gasket. If you park in an enclosed area you’ll smell the acrid remnants of that oil.

at the dealer that’s upwards of $2k. Any Indy will charge you half of that for just the gasket.

If the valve cover is cracked you’ll need a new one and that will +$500 to either price above, minimum.

Had that fixed at the dealership and it cost me somewhere between $1,200 and $1,400 to get a new cover and gasket installed.

With mine, the smell was actually coming into the cab so I couldn't put it off.
