Continental DWS06 or Pirelli Ice & Snow?

I've researched and read all I could and cannot find a definitive answer to this question. We get a moderate amount of snow, but not enough to warrant full-time snow tires, but it will stay below freezing Dec-Feb. If you have experience with these please sound off. Also, if you have additional options I'd love to hear about those.
Also, I am probably purchasing the 21" rims from the dealership. Would you go with the 20's in winter or 21's?
Thanks for sharing your experience!

Dan,

I'm in the midwest (Indianapolis), and I think our winter weather is pretty similar to yours. Like you, we don't get a ton of snow, but enough that you have to be prepared. More than the snow, it's the cold temps. I've run dedicated summer and winter setups on all of my M cars for many years now. I would really call them "winter" tires rather than "snow" tires.

I'm picking up my '17 next week... I ordered the 20" setup available from BMW. It includes Pirelli Scorpions.

As for the Conti DWS06s... They are a fine tire, I tried them on my M3 for a while. But they are just "OK" at everything and not "good" at anything. I think you get much better performance/safety from a dedicated winter and summer setup. Just my $0.02...

If given a choice I say 20s for sure - take the extra inch of rubber and better tread. I am most likely getting 21s because I dont feel like getting yet another set of wheels and it is not a daily driver. I'm opting for Pirelli Ice and Snow run flats since its a BMW setup, that way i can keep my wheel and tire insurance coverage.

I'm living in Austria - so yes - we have snow

had the 21'' Pirelli Scorpion Ice and Snow RFT in OEM size (285/35/21 & 325/30/21) installed and can really recommend them...

Ok so I've been comparing the Pirelli Scorpion Winters vs the Ice and Snows. The winters appear to be superior to the RFTs (snow/ice). In 21s only for this discussion. Looking at that tool for fitment located on rimsntires.com, it looks like we can do the 285/40s and 295/35s??? The only issue is that it adds about 3 mph to the speedo but oem sizes are already around 3 mph higher anyway. So if you run these, you just need to be aware of approx. 5 mph diff (higher) in speed readings. You get the superior tire that is better in snow and cold (according to their own website info) fills the well better, has a higher sidewall, is non RFT and can be used with our 21 inch rims. Oh and they are less pricey by quite a bit. Also, you cannot do 285s in rear since we have 11.5 in rim so only 285/295....... Thoughts? Am I reading this right???
