Piggyback vs ECU flash

Has anyone compared the two, like e.g. Dinan vs ESS or similar. From what I've read it seems like Dinan/Racechip/Velos piggybacks are pretty similar, JB4 w/BCM is more aggressive, and it seems like the ECU flash tunes are pretty similar to each other. What I'm not sure of is how much better the flash tunes are compared to the basic piggybacks. There's a Eurocharged dealer in town and they have a flash tune, I just don't know if I want to run into warranty issues compared to just going with Dinan, but if the car is going to be a lot faster I may consider it.

Very very complicated question. The correct answer all depends on YOU.

1. Race Chip , etc set for 3 psi keeps the factory boost arc at the shifts and will drop your 0-100 mph by 1.0 second. Pretty safe deal with good pump fuel. Warranty friendly. Will not delete cel for catless, etc.

2. JB4 with BCM = more power , no arc , stronger accel, will delete catless cels, can lead to part breakage if you get too greedy with boost. Also needs a more sophisticated end user.

3. Flash. Ultimate power if designed by the "correct" tuner. Deletes cels correctly by turning them off instead of erasing each time the set. Least warranty friendly.

I'm mainly curious what power difference there would be between just the different tunes, dyno graphs, quarter mile slips etc. Not planning on doing downpipes or anything else.

Basically wondering if the difference in power from just a tune is so substantial that it's worth taking a risk on the warranty 😊

@atxgt3 , if you want your money worth for the horsepower gain. You will need to do a dyno flash tune. Not the regular bench flash tune where everybody are selling.
The dyno flash tune is the proper way and cost a lot of money, and very few people still doing it due to the demands.
Most of the people that I know are stop doing it already, since their work is not being appreciated by the community.

From the customer perspective, perhaps it's just not worth the extreme investment of time and money just to get a few extra HP over a much easier / cheaper method?

No, it is just the market not understanding much on precision tuning.
Especially with turbo cars, with an addition of 2psi, generally it will give you about 40whp gain. But, will it be safe? Just bumping up the boost, you are not changing the AFR since it is still preset by the DME.

Since I'm probably only going to keep my car for another year, I think race chip is the best bet for me. Snap it on, enjoy the power and take it off when returning it to the dealership.
Still looking for an installer in town though, wouldn't wanna DIY and mess it up :/

Drive to LA, I'll pop it in for you.
I was in Vegas last month.
