Install Front Mud Flaps on F15 M-sport

We got a break in the weather here in New Jersey today, so I decided to install my mud flaps. The entire operation took about one hour - very easy job. The pictures tell the story, but her are the steps:

Gather the required tools as in my picture
Use a bucket and soapy water to clean the area first
Clean the area where the double back tape will stick with alcohol
Use a pin punch to knock out the rivet center
Cut off the rivet head with a hammer and chisel
Use and 8 mm socket to remove the bottom screw. Save to re-install
Peel back the tape liner (orange) about 1 1/2" at both ends
Dry fit the mud flap and position by inserting the two supplied rivets - do not drive in the pins yet.
re-install the bottom screw and gently tighten
Now drive in the rivet pins
Strip the tape liner and press the mud flap firmly against the body
Rub you hand over the tape joint several times to get a secure bond
Use a 1/8" drill to make a hole for the supplied lower screw
Install the lower screw with a hand screwdriver - do not over tighten

I had a small gap at the top of the mud guard. To fix this is used Plumbers Goop to fill the gap. Mostly for appearance. This glue is easily removed later if necessary

FINAL THOUGHTS
I think the job turned out well, and looks OK. All the trim pieces on the car are black, therefore I decided not to paint my mud flaps. I think the car looks better without mud flaps, but hopefully these will help keep the sides of the car cleaner and prevent chips on the rockers. If you are at all handy with basic tools, I would not hesitate to do this job. I like working on cars, so for me its a no-brainer.

Very nice!

I have them on my 35d, alpine white. They blend right in and I do not notice them. Keeps the side more clean too.

Nicely done. In Winter the flaps eliminate/reduce the build up of salty snow at the bottom of the door panels as most is contained in the wheel well.

Hahaha, jokes aside, some people may have questions about the look of the flaps but the practical use is spot on, I have spacers and I'm getting a little bit worried about the amount of gravel and stuff that are hitting the side of the car and I'm considering this mod on the front wheels. Great write up !!

Brilliant write up - I am now one step closer to adding mudflaps to my Carbon Black X5 M-Sport which is due to arrive in 3 weeks time.

A question and a favour:
1. Did you fit mudflaps to the rear of the car ? if so, any tips ? Do you happen to have the part number ?
2. Could you post a side profile picture of the mudflaps. Ive always had mudflaps on the 4 F10 BMW's I've had and think they "finish" a car.

Many thanks,

I did not fit them at the rear as I believe the benefit is minimal. During snow /slush driving 90% of the accumulation has been on the front fender, rocker and door. I can post a side view, but give me until midweek.

The part number is listed in one of the photos as labeled as such.

Why get the M-Sport instead of the sport? The black plastics would cover the gravel. I was thinking when I had my x6, I didn't have to worry about gravel, black plastics around the dab protected her.
