I think I only did 5 or so cycles... brakes were already pretty warm from coming down the mountain. I won't pretend to be an expert, so I can't say for sure if that was enough or not. But I can say that they don't squeak now!

to be honest guys there isnt much you can do if you have break squeal already.
ive had quite a few big brake setups from the brembos on the evo to black diamonds and it is what it is .

you can kinda improve on it buy bedding them in gentler for a slightly longer period , but all big breaks make a bit of noise . its abit like twin plate and tripple plate clutches . they are what they are unfortunately

Shit. Just picked up a 2016 this morning from Mass. Drove it back down to NY and when I got home, I started hearing this screech and ticking.

280 miles on it.
I've just made an appointment at my local dealer to bring it in tomorrow morning.

i bedded them, did 8-10 cycles from 60 to 20. it didn't help with the squealing, beyond a few miles. The squeal, in my experience, goes away after heavy use of the brakes (bedding, or even just a few very hard stomps - which are hard to do in everyday use since they're so darn effective), or after the wheels and discs are washed. But then it comes back.

I'm going in for fix #3 next week. We'll see how this turns out, but it seems like most have only had temporary success with these approaches. If it isn't fixed for me, and permanently, I'll be moving in a more permanent direction.

What are they doing for the "third fix"? You've had the spacers and wheel bearings replaced? Good luck!

Mine squeal v little- but even if they squealed more, they're enormous brakes with track-able pads. They're going to make noise.

Function > form in this department.

How are you making out? Beat that thing with some heavy duty figure 8's get it clicking again sooner than later.....but I hope you don't get the clicking and you found a fix.

I haven't had the bearings replaced, they did the spacer, and then sanded the hub surface. We will see what they do next week...

So far so good... I also heard BMW will offer the quiet brakes package for those who will not use their cars for the track. I don't intend to track an SUV.

How quickly did you guys notice these issues? I'm at 500 miles and everything is good so far. Curious when they are expected to pop up.

Had my car in for 10K service and service noticed the same issue .I don't have the specifics but they order spacers for the front wheels and said it was a recommended repair from BMW. I will get more info on Thur/Fri when they fix it and post it.

This really doesnt make sense to me - ive had an e46 M3, suprcharged Range Rover Sport, AMG C63, F10 M5, and now a 911 GTS, all which had pretty powerful brakes. None of those squeaked - the F10 did for a short period, but a quick stomp or cleaning fixed that.

I also dont hear any other high performance SUVs squeak near me at the light, only the city bus.

My business partner has a full size Range Rover Supercharged, and he had to take it in three times to fix squeaking brakes. He also had to pay out of pocket to replace them after about 10k miles because they were too worn already.

My GT3 brakes squealed before I just had them replaced. My 997TT brakes squealed. My Jeep SRT never squealed and it had big Brembo brakes. My M3s never squealed.

Seems like it's hit or miss.

Guess i finally got hit - its just so annoying to me. I want to find out if anyone is sure its the brake pads, and if we could swap them out to remedy the issue. Ill never track, so to lose some performance for more comfort would be worth the swap.

M3 pads (E46, specifically) weren't likely as aggressive as the compound on the X5M.

If you look any track-focused pads for any vehicle, squeal (and dust) is usually the trade off for higher performance. In most cases, uprated pads are designed for fade resistance under sustained/cycled heat... a circumstance I suspect is present in the normal course in a vehicle as heavy and fast as the X5M.

Given the audio and prodigious dust these things produce, I'd chalk it up to a more aggressive pad. Would be interesting to know if the if the of in M-performance kit is the same or different (not sure on sizing).

Go to a brake specialist shop, ask them to cut the brake edges for you. I've done this, there is no squeal for 5000km now. See the photo I post earlier in this thread. Hope this is helpful for you.

And just done the third fix for wheel bearings, dealer installed "carriers", no clicking for 500km so far.
