Remote battery needs replacement

Received a system alert on the gauge cluster that read "remote battery needs replacement", so I replaced the battery in the key fob. However, seems that the system doesn't automatically detect that the battery has been replaced?

Is there anyway to get rid the alert message without a decoder gadget? I won't be going to my Indy shop until the spring.

Any help on this would be great appreciated!

Not exactly sure but maybe try touching the remote to your steering column.
That would be my best guess

Are you sure the replacement battery was fresh and has at least 2.8-3.s volts?

Do you have a 2nd remote that may also need a battery replaced?

and not overlook a protective removable piece of tape on the battery before inserting , not as if that happened this weekend

This actually happened to me about a month after I bought my x5. Replacing the battery is actually kind of easy.
1. Remove the key from the remote
2. Carefully pry the back of the remote outwards.
3. Place it all back together and you should be all set!

Replacing the battery in the fob requires nothing but what he said above. you replace the battery, and the vehicle recognizes that the battery isn't low anymore.

If you replaced the battery, and got the same message, the battery isn't full.

FYI the key actually fits into a small piece on the lid to help you pry it up.

You shouldn't have to do this but it's worth a try. Sounds more like the battery might not full.

I had the same alert message come on last week, replaced the battery and got back in the car and it went away.

Same here, its almost like it was timed because the remote was working just fine.

I decided to replace both remotes since I had the batteries for something else anyway.

Took total of 5 minutes to replace both.

Embarrassingly, I had replaced the key fob battery with a dead battery from the secondary key fob. Placed a brand new one and the alert went away. Thanks for everyone's responses!
