Three different dials (4th one coming April 2014 production)

My info is for Europe only using bmw.ch (swiss) x5 configurator. I hope it is accurate.

1st dial photo is the basic one
2nd has extended dials (if I tick Navi Pro option)
3rd adds to the extended ones with gray shaded roundings (if I tick HUD option) - 3rd one looks best from the photos in the configurator

4th option not yet officially confirmed will be those LCD gauges.

Nice!

I'd LOVE to get the full-LCD speedo on the F15 at some point in the US.

Yes, this was the way on the 5er. Full LCD display arrived later. Makes sense this will arrive on the x5. April sounds about right for new options.

Garage List
I wish that BMW (and others) would hurry up and phase out all of the gauges, nasty old-fashioned dot-matrix displays, and so on. Tesla gets it, as does Mercedes with the new S Class, and others are slowly but surely making the switch. BMW usually does a good job in keeping up with or ahead of the technology curve, but I'm afraid that they're not doing so well in the move to the "glass dashboard."

In the near future we'll look back at cars with analog gauges, auxiliary displays, and dozens of controls and realize how quaint they are. Some will always have a bit of nostalgia for them, just like manual shifters, incandescent lighting, and other dated technologies, but new cars shouldn't suffer as a result.

What are the odds a full LCD display will be offered for the 2014 (later in the spring)...as opposed to being offered on the 2015?

It really sucks that you can't order the extended cluster / black panel without HUD. My car goes into production (40d) in January, pretty sure nothing will change until then...

Well i got comment coming from bmw product manager that smthg better is coming, perhaps even better then lcd screens (mfd) currently available in other models. Bmw usually introduces changes for april or sep/oct production. All of these are assumptions but i think it is coming april. I was really interested in this and asked question through a dealer with product manager training salesman on the new x5. I asked here on the forum the admin before attending f15 press conference also and got no answer. I decided to receive car in Jan, april production would mean to get the car before in june whivh is too late for me. RRS has them and although not a true competitor, has an advantage in more advanced dials. Having said all of this, extended function dials look great for the F15, mfd is cool on other models but looks a bit busy in normal mode, if they simplify it and make it better then no doubt it will look way better to those of us open to having lcd dials.

Question April production changes?

Any news out there about LCD gauges or other changes with post-April production dates? I'm ready to pull the trigger to buy a new X5 but would definitely be willing to wait until April if there is a possibility that I could get LCD gauges.

Thanks for any info...

No all-LCD instruments in the April 2014 price list. Sorry.

I asked my dealer about full LCD and he asked BMW guys up there. They said Full LCD cluster will be offered September 2014.

Before ordering F15, I was seriously considering F01 which obviously has full LCD dials; and was really sad that a car (F15) technically a few years older than F01 won't have LCD from start. And then I saw W222 2x huge LCDs in action... again, loads of fun, crisp picture, etc.
BUT! After staring (live, i.e. not videos/photos) at all this show for quite some time, I got the feeling that I'm just an analog dials guy. Doesn't mean LCDs are bad or analog is the only way, just happy there are still options out there (same as getting or not getting comfort access).

I agree with you 100%. While waiting on the F15, had 5-series with MFD for a while and it was fun but after some time I realized the same, I prefer the analog ones to current MFD. BUT I think BMW will update those dials for the X5/X6 and they could be better than the current analog ones.

Thanks! I started this thread long time ago and hopefully helped some of the guys to pay attention to the different variations of dials. Unfortunately some who also care about this were dissapointed with getting basic dials (some again do not care). During my research on the topic my dealer told me that a partial photo of the LCD dials appeared on the German website (photo was displaying possiblilities of night vision) but was removed from the website quite fast. Now, the product manager for the F15 when asked during the training for the sales staff told there is something better coming out (better than current MFD), but would not disclose more. Of course things may change and what he "knew" then is subject to change. In conclusion, Sept 2014 is in part due to the F16 coming out to give it a more wow effect during press releases and the dials will probably look better then the current ones on the F10. I must admit that I like the analog cluster with extended content better than the full LCD dials currently available, but it could very well happen that BMW will hugely improve them and then of course I may look into that (quite expensive retrofit ). Cheers!

If the full LCD (inc. dials) has the same quality and blurriness as the current F15 full LCD (only bottom part), then I'll prefer to keep analog dials as I found this part of the screen not as sharp as the iDrive screen is for instance.

I have full LCD now, must say, that though not so high def, I find it an improvement or more of a refreshment compared to the extended dials (nr 3 in my this thread).

These are now standard if you order the M Sport Plus pack in the UK.
