Dashboard Rattle
I have a persistent and, of course, annoying rattle in my dashboard. It seems to directly in front of the steering wheel.
What's the fix for this, and is it covered under warranty? Thanks! |

Trying to get warranty coverage for a rattle is doable if excessive enough but tends to be more of a headache than it's worth.
If you can find the source of the rattle, then they're usually pretty easy to fix. Get some thick two sided foam tape. You can either go all the way with it and dismantle then reassemble the offending area with the tape in-between the pieces, or you can just try to pry apart the pieces without fully disassembling in order to get a piece of the tape between them. Heck, I've fixed rattles with matchbooks before. I think I have/had the same rattle as you but it went away a while ago and didn't come back. I think it was coming from the fitment of the gauge cluster with the rest of the dash. |

I found the culprit to be the HUD surround (the plastic border around the clear plastic cover on the dash). I jammed some folded paper under one of the corners and it helped, but obviously that is not a permanent fix.
I'm not sure what I want to do about it yet, just sharing that's what I found was making the noise.. |

I never had issues addressing rattles with the dealer. It was covered under warranty all the time. Jamming paper under/around HUD seems to me as a very questionable fix. I mean there are different type of rattles, but ones something is rattling inside dash... Take it to the dealer.

Like I said, it's absolutely possible to have the dealer fix a rattle under warranty. It's sometimes just more of a pain than it's worth given that the fix is sometimes something you can do better yourself with a nominal amount of work. YMMV. |
