6 days with my beautiful F15
So much for the accident-free record I paid a premium for. Searched over the whole country for a Mineral on Mocha Nappa F15D with (almost) all the options. Bought it in Chicago (rust free, btw) and drove it 2200 miles home. Got here on Tuesday, today (Thursday) I had to come to a full stop on the freeway when traffic suddenly halted in front of me and the guy behind me failed to stop in time. Felt a lot worse than it looks, honestly.
Did you guys know these things have a head/neck support system in the front head rests that deploys in the case of a rear-end accident? BMW never ceases to amaze me. As absolutely livid as I am, I'm thankful I was in the daily and not my e30 or e92. God dammit.

The bodyshop I want to go to is booked til (at least) August. I'm running around trying to find another but finding a good work is terribly difficult. Bodyshop I want to use had to let his main painter go cuz he got an offer of 200k/yr to paint cars at a shop down the road. In addition to the visible damage, there's rattles from the trunk and the dash, vibrations from what I assume are damaged motor mounts, and PDC and comfort access are down. Among other things, like I'm pretty sure the structural integrity of my front seat backs is not the same. Do you have any advice for this? I'm wondering if I want to go for the angle of getting them to repair all the intricacies/intangibles via the bodyshop (which will be difficult according to the shops) or if I should try to claim it all under diminished value and put part of that towards fixing things like the damaged motor mounts and hunting down the damn rattles (which irks me to no end, this car was so perfect before this happened...ugh).

Sorry to hear. Huge bummer.
Diminished value is easy. Well... "easy" depending on how good the insurance company is. Ask for it, they'll give you an offer. If you like it, take it. If not tell them you're going to get an appraiser to value it from before accident and after. They'll probably up the offer. If you're happy with it, take it. If not, pay an appraiser to value it and go from there with your negotiations. As for mounts and other things... if it's not right, the accident caused it and your body shop will need to write it up in their "supplementary" findings. The at fault party's insurance has to make the vehicle whole, or pay you outright for its value. |

For the rattles and all, it could just be the bumper and lower trunk moving around when you drive, even if you can't replicate it by hand. For peace of mind, maybe have a mic placed around the car next time you drive it and see if you can trace down anything; obviously, this shouldn't be in lieu of the shop's assessment, but it's something to do if you get itchy waiting for your appointment. My rudimentary and optimistic guess also points to the exhaust + exhaust mount as one of the culprits... California folks, any suggestion for a good shop? Again, I hope it is all taken care of soon so y'all can enjoy the car! |

Also, diminished value is hard to get. They low ball like crazy. I am still fighting my claim after 4 months. Luckily I didn't sign their property damage release yet as I believe my recent transmission failure is caused by the accident damage as the brackets for the exhaust are attached to the transmission and must have damaged it in a way that it leaked or cracked for over 4 months being undetected until now. Not sure how I'm going to get them to pay for this as they barely paid out to replace my lower tailgate and attempted to repair it instead. Insurance uses every fraudulent practice possible to not pay. i had a $3K diminished value claim created by an appraiser expert and after fighting every step of the way the most they offered was $750.00 stating that diminished value is based on a barter system. Attorneys try to take all the money for themselves and leave the claimant with nothing so you need to be very sturdy and strict with insurance.

That sucks big time, main thing is that everyone is ok (for the most part). I was in a similar situation in February. Minor accident, damage didn't look too bad at all but the insurance company (ICBC in BC) ended up writing off the vehicle. it was a 2014 with only 110k kms. Also got extremely good value for it without any haggling at all. Hope yours turns into a positive situation as well.

Well, luckily there aren't any aftermarket parts for the f15 in terms of body panels so they have to use OEM since it's the only part available.

Did they end up replacing your whole exhaust system? Mine is bent in the same way as yours was--pushed in on the right side and sticking out more than it should on the left.

I will say, in terms of specific experience with other brands, I've seen one of my parents prior cars fixed at an Acura dealership and their work was subpar.

Yes, so the insurance attempted to only pay to refinish my exhaust but after explaining to them that I will not accept anything less than a replacement they then attempted to only pay for replacing the tips. After explaining to them that the part number for my exhaust does not allow tip replacement due to having a valve system integrated thus it needs a brand new full exhaust. It took a long delay just to get them to accept it needs a full system. Also, all body shops even dealers' body shops have a fixed rate that special to insurance companies. Consumer pricing for labor may be 300/hr but when the insurance steps in they work with the shop and negotiate a reduced rate. Also, I have attached the headrest system BMW receipt that all needed to be replaced for it. Also, did your carfax have any prior reports of any damages or imperfections?

@Vivek. Fortunately I was the only one in the car and was not hurt in the accident. The headrest did its job so I was literally playing golf a day after the accident. Haven't had any issues since either. Hope you all are ok after your accident.

0 progress. Their adjuster was supposed to call me by Friday. Left her a VM yesterday (her VM recording promises a call back the same business day) and if I don't hear back today I'm filing it with my own insurance to have them put pressure on Geico to start moving forward.
I have the body shop selected, but they can't move forward until Geico gives a prelim estimate on the repair.
