After many years I came to a boring conclusion: from about 105 °F to 0°F for my F85 I use the same OEM oil - and even more boring, I keep it until the service advice lights up, about every 15 - 20.000 mi.
Now, with some 55.000 mi the car, often driven "with real brio" on German highways, uses 1 to 2 quarters of oil between oil changes and seems quite happy. Modern oils seem to have become so good that spending extra money for extra oil changes seem wholly wasted - and environmentally questionable. |

Interesting. I guess different model / years call for different type oil. Mines 2016 X6M (0W-30)
And im assuming that those non dealer shops and oil manufacturer recommendations are mostly generalizing. Im sticking w dealer recommendations. But then again we got the same car..how could this be? Last edited by SupersixM; 07-02-2019 at 08:59 PM.. |

Just doing some google searching and im reading that 0W-30 is being phased out for the slightly thicker 0w-40. Hence why 0W-30 is always more expensive than 0W-40....all feedback appreciated.

LIQUI MOLY 0W-30
This is what i use for my 2015 F15 "european" shops use this oil for high performance cars including very sensitive twin turbos BMW recommended 5W-30 and after a while they've change it to 0W-30 Their original BMW oil is...Shell/Penzoil as of 2015 when BMW ditched Mobil and Castrol due to their formula change ( they didn't but Shell paid BMW more for the pleasure i guess) As for additives ...I use Liqui Moly JECTRON every 1500 miles or so Last edited by NY F15; 10-26-2019 at 09:11 PM.. |

Have done this on a variety of cars for many years, additive pack on the samples are always well past their best by then. Cheers Yves |
