GFHB on '14 F15

I've been working with dmnc02 on coding our F15 and I have made a video to show the results. I had good weather for the video, so the fog helps to show the shadow box that is created by the GFHB. It is also interesting to note how the system can track more than one vehicle on the road ahead, watch towards the end of the video where the presence of a second car up the road prevents the high beams on the left side from activating due to a curve in the road that would illuminate that other car.

A perfect demo with the fog. Thank you for sharing,

I finally attempted to code these today, never having explored coding before.

I believe I did everything correctly, but on a quick drive this evening I couldn't figure out how to "enable" the lighting. I had the automatic high beams turned on with automatic headlights (the rotating switch to the left of the steering wheel) enabled, but did not detect any attempt to shadow-box. The high beams simply turned on/off.

I have a pretty loaded F15 (2015) including HUD, Active Cruise Control and of course LED lights. I followed the "Appendix A" instructions (i.e. for the older 2015 model with older ECUs). I VO coded first (removing the two features as directed), then I coded all the ECUs and then finally I applied the specific lighting ECU coding mods as per the PDF.

Am I just stupid and I somehow did not actually turn on the lights the "right way" (whatever that is)?

I did not feel brave enough to just randomly drive around with highbeams on...

Thanks for any pointers!

If you followed dmnc02's instructions, then you have done everything you need to do. GFHB's won't work under all conditions and the high beams will revert to HBA style operation. The main factors blocking GFHB that I found when testing the system were city street lights and not exceeding the minimum speed for GFHB. I coded a slower enable speed and found a good road and then the update was obvious.

Thanks. I also found some other posts referring to the speed so I coded the min/max as per those threads. I also wondered if my turning on the fog lights when parking was somehow conflicting (Enables fog lights to be on with parking lights BDC_BODY 3068 NSW_EIN_AUF_LDS_STL - got this from the cheat sheet) and so I reverted this change.

After this, just got back from a 45 minute drive and now I can clearly see the effect. I didn't drive anywhere particularly rural but I can see the shadow boxing and did not get flashed so believe this is working ok.

What did you guys code to min/max speeds to? any reference I could use and what code did you change as well?

On the F15 it is in BDC Body, I coded mine to the following;

C_HBA_ENA_V_LO werte=1C (approx 17 mph)
C_HBA_ENA_V_HI werte=2C (approx 27 mph)

Good point! Fogs also interfere with GFHB. I have not tested that coding, but I recall seeing a post that indicated that GFHB would not work if fogs were on, even if the car is coded to allow fogs with high beam.

It would be great to see a better video of NGHB in action on an F15 at some point.
Howdy dmnc02... I'm about to start coding a new X6M, so I wanted to be sure these instructions are the latest (PDF is dated 12/14/15).

Thanks as always for getting this all figured out. I remember our epic days with the F80. Glad we're over that hump

Howdy! Sorting out the F80 did bring together a good team

If the X6M has the LHM+TMS ECUs (which should mean a production date before July 1, 2015), the coding in the PDF is the latest.

OTOH, if the X6M has the newer FLE ECUs (production date starting July 1, 2015), the corresponding coding is being updated, as mentioned in the thread. The tunnel is now working fine on PlayTookies's F15 with FLEs based on his feedback and the videos I have seen of his car, but we are doing a bit more testing before updating the PDF. If you want, I can send you a PM with the updated coding (and you can help with additional feedback and first-hand comparison to the F80).

My production date is Nov 2015, so yes I have the newer FLE's.

Send me the settings.

Tried the lights last night and they are working similarly to the lights in my F80, so much so that I can't tell any discernible difference. Seems like the settings you sent me work just fine.

That is what I hoped to hear Thank you for the confirmation.

I will update the PDF soon.

My production date is Dec 15. I know realize that while my lights work for oncoming traffic they don't work when I follow. Sounds like there are some more updates coming - is there another thread to watch?

No, as mentioned I will post updates in this thread.

I have been waiting to sort out one last detail before updating the PDF, but PlayTookies, who is the chief tester for the new ECUs (even risking jail for the cause), has been very busy with work in the past few days. I am hoping to post the update this weekend.

PlayTookies had some time last night to confirm the last detail (he has really put a lot of time and effort into this), so below is the revised version of the PDF with the anti-dazzle coding.

A few remarks:
  • There are no changes in the coding for vehicles with the LHM ECUs (production date before July 1, 2015): the only changes are for vehicles with the newer FLE ECUs.
  • There are a total of 101 () parameters that need to be FDL coded in each FLE: nevertheless, FDL coding is fairly quick, since each of the parameters listed in Appendix 2 (with only one exception) need to be changed to the same "F015Wert" value. I will also mention a shortcut for coding this in the next post.
  • If you want to FDL code this, make sure you are using E-Sys Launcher v2.5 or newer, as otherwise the "F015Wert" value will not appear for some of the parameters listed in Appendix 2.

So, as a temporary solution, here is a quick way of coding Step 2 for NGHB on F15s with production date after July 1, 2015.
  1. Confirm that the CAFD that appears in your SVT tree under your FLE ECUs is CAFD_000024C3_008_007_002 (this should be the case for vehicles with production dates through December 2015).
  2. If the above is the case, download the attached CAFD (which is already coded) and rename it CAFD_000024C3_008_007_002.ncd.
  3. Connect to the car, read and activate FA and read SVT as usual.
  4. Right-click on the CAFD underlying the first FLE ECU, select New > FDL and then select the downloaded CAFD.
  5. Expand the folder that appears under the FLE ECU, select the CAFD inside the folder and click "Code FDL".
  6. Repeat Steps 4 and 5 for the other FLE ECU.
The above procedure is quick and error-proof, but is only temporary, as at some point newer cars will come with a newer CAFD.

Thanks for this as always - is there anything further I need to modify that's a delta between what this and what you PM'd me earlier in the week?

The only difference between this version and the one I PM'd you earlier this week is that the amber side markers are back on in this version.
