As a diesel fan, however, this paragraph alone is all I needed to deviate from diesel at this given point in time...you never know what comes out of this in a year time...it's best to stay away from it until the dust it settled "completely".
Some people are naturally more cautious. Others aren't. You may lose sleep over buying a diesel while others will revel in driving one. For you, yes, it is best to skip the oil burner but that doesn't mean it is best for others.

Personally, I have zero reservations buying a BMW diesel. I can even make the argument that a used one will be in more demand in a few years because the conservative buyers who stayed away created a shortage on the market.

Different strokes for different folks.

you might be right...but
I do remember, it was only a couple of days after the VW situation was out that people called me asking for ridiculous discounts on my X5 diesel (my diesel was listed for sale), arguing that the VW issue gave them the right to ask for such crazy low ball offers...go figure, ha?!

Maybe switching from 35d to 35i, but what happened to the 2016 EPA figures?

I've been wanting a 35d for sometime and was about to order when the 2016s came out and decided to wait the extra time (December production) rather than buy a 2015 from the lot. However, now I'm worried production on 2016 35d won't even start then, based on this thread. So, I started to consider a 2016 35i, but noticed the EPA figures on mileage went from 18/27 in 2015 to 18/24 in 2016...what gives? My dealer won't talk about it. There's otherwise no change in engine, weight etc. Should I get a 2015 or is it got an overinflated EPA highway figure that was corrected for 2016? I need some expert opinion or knowledge here. Thanks!

The dealers come here for answers to the same questions! Members here regularily acheive mileage figures exceeding EPA estimates.

My contact @ BMW has informed to not expect 2016 diesel production to begin until sometime in 2016.

I have a friend who works at Audi, and he just informed me that their new for 2016 Audi Q7 was supposed to be launched in diesel and it is not launching with their gas variant and the diesel is being pushed until sometime in early-mid 2016.

What is going on here?

I think my argument is winning...that's what's happening...
and again, as much as I am disappointed with NOT getting a diesel, I think it is not wise to opt or wait for a diesel at this point in time...this issue is turning into a "ticking bomb"...you never know what comes out of this...good or bad.
it is better to stay safe and put for now... gas is the viable option for now...we'll see what happens later...who knows.

Why is it a ticking bomb ? .... with the greatest of respect why be so over dramatic ...... with regards to the Audi, perhaps there is more demand in other markets ? The world doesn't always revolve around NA and Canada

You sound like you are trying to justify your own actions to yourself.

this is not about me nor NA. I've lived in London for 3 years and in Europe for shy of a decade, and another 8 years in MEA. So I'm fully aware of all things evolving around me
Although I agree with you that a supply/demand inefficiency may occasionally shift a higher attention to supplying more to the higher-demanding countries and may only slow down the supply to lower-demanding countries, but it would never indefinitely shut down a country's entire supply till further notice just because other countries may have higher demands(!)...this simply kills their market-share...not everyone who had decided to buy a diesel would opt for a gas, or wait for diesel to finally come out again (someday!)...they would simply go and explore other options...buy another diesel for example (Mercedes).
Also, I do not suppose if there are any other continents besides NA who have the highest SUV demand ... certainly not Europe or UK for that matter.
Especially with the new act in London and Paris to eliminate diesel vehicles into major central areas by 2020.
I never said my speculations are facts or for certain. What I'm trying to say is that I think this is more than just shortage of supply. No business-man would think otherwise.

..... well I do and I don't subscribe to your ticking bomb theory .... delays were announced long before the VW issue and there are seemingly delays to certain markets of the 40e .... is that a ticking bomb as well .... or simply down to a 1001 reasons that can cause delays ?

For those interested, BMW Canada new programs have been announced and no changes from October. I was expecting some sort of money being thrown at these "remaining" 2015 vehicles but apparently that is not happening.

Most likely will not be taking delivery of this X5, will hold off and likely order a 2016.

Wise choice IMO...so you're gonna wait till the diesel version comes out or you will opt for gas model?
my dealer has no clue regarding a possible release date and they can not get an answer from BMW Canada.

The VW scandal will surely put a huge dent in their sales and company trust and affect other diesel manufactures.

But it doesn't make sense...

Mercedes is still selling theirs with no issues
and BMW is still releasing 2015 models with no issues. so why is 2016 any different? just doesn't make sense to me

I have no idea what I will do yet..

To be honest, I may want to step into an X5 M or an M5, because I am getting rid of the R8 so in that case I want something a little more exciting than an X5 diesel

Just got feedback from dealer that BMW is pushing back its Diesel engines till next year... As it seems they are changing the engine...whatever the reason...

Mercedes may not have any engine changes planned...I know that their diesel GLE COUPES weren't going to be in our market sooner than January 2016 anyways...

SO happy we took delivery of my wife's 2015 X5 35D before all this silliness went down. Absolutely love it.
