will be sad to see all these on the road instead of the E70 in a year or so. What a step down. The M sport with the right wheels is the only way it looks any good. And yeah "M" sport should be named something else.

Interior looks nicely done as others have said.

I really like my E70, and think it's one of the better BMW designs of the 2000's, along with the E92 I had before. The Bangle era produced some really awful designs, and I'm happy to see that have been mostly purged, with the Z4 and 1 series the only leftovers. The new designs also take some getting used to, but one of them are as polarizing as the Bangle nonsense. There are some elements and angles of,the F15 that aren't perfect, but I think that overall they've done a nice job.

As others have stated, once people see these in the metal then they will warm to the design, and in short order the E70 is going to look even more dated. Note that "dated" isn't a slam, just an observation. The E38, E39 and E53 are dated, but there are plenty of them in the right colors and with the right wheels and tires that look great. Conversely, the E60, E63, and E65 are not aging well, and their goofy headlights and awful trunk shut lines make them look 10 to 20 years older than they really are.

Good lord...M stripes on the damn keyfob for an SUV? Can BMW whore out the M brand any more?

I'm already sounding way to much like a curmudgeon (and am too young for that!) but M needs to *try* to control this...perhaps the division has no say. I'd cut them some slack, but I'm an M fanatic and there is nothing M currently makes that I actually want to own...that is just sad. (Disclaimer: The E9X M3 is a great car and a true M car but with my current stable I don't want one). I hope that M gets its act together with the M2/3/4 series - I'd love to pick one up. And I don't want to know it's an M car by keyfob stripes, but rather the way it drives...

Rant over...I'm sure a drive in one of my "old" Ms will calm me down!

Why does it look sooo.. NARROW?! It's like getting more skinny and taller, much like the x3; it lost most of that aggressive stance it use to have in the e70 when everything was just low and WIDEEEE... - Nice interior though...

The Bangle era was the best. It put BMW on the map styling wise. "Flame surfacing" has been emulated by many cars since Bangle.

BM runs the risk of becoming Toyota safe with this sort of styling.

Having said that I love the the "boomerang" vent on the front guard and the way the line turns into a crease on the lower part of the doors. I would have to say that it is a Bangle flame surface styling feature.

I am sure they invest MUCH money in trying to know what people want.

You do not like the X5, but a lot of people will buy it necause to them it looks a bit more modern and young, for example. I personally agree with you.

it looks like a luxury SUV now. it's no longer an SAV. X5 has lost its sportiness , but it looks good. maybe the x6 will be the sporty one

Hate to say it guys but after looking at these pics for a couple days, it is already growing on me. The only thing i dont like is the tailamps. Looks more muscular in the front. I think the xline is actually the worst lookping line of the three. The interior is awesome. Excited about the different suspension options. Headlamps look really good in the videos. Eager to see it in the flesh.

I wonder if I could buy a set of those M Performance stripes and retrofit them to my fob? Maybe some mini Akrapovic exhaust tips too! I'll have the coolest fob in town.

That's a fair point--my bad for misunderstanding.

Like I said before, I think putting an ///M on everything is just idiotic...I have M badges all over my 135i and I don't think they need to be there.

There's even an ///M emblem on the side of the new M235i...there is just too much of this shit...

Why so much hate for the M branding? You guys should be happy to have even more opportunities to get all smug and sneer about how a car "isn't really an M" as you pass them in your E-blah blah with its awesome S-blah blah motor.

From my perspective, it is a deceptive marketing trick. There has been an ///M in my family, and several non-Ms. There is just a difference between the two, and BMW is blurring those lines without adding any real performance or whatnot.

To a purist, it is a further dilution of the brand. People understand that we no longer live in a world where all the engines can be bespoke and NA, but this type of shit just gets old.

When you slap something like an ///M badge on every single car, does it not lose some of the characteristics that once made it special? How can it be special if every car in the lineup has ///M shit all over it?

That's the basis of my beef with this type of practice by BMW...I still love the cars, but this crap is just ridiculous...

What you are seeing now , which actually began with the BMW X4 Concept is the separation of the BMW X Line in terms of sporting individuality.

The X5 is more luxurious and more flexible than before in order to position the X6 as the sportiest model of the Medium class X line.
The same goes for the X3 and X4 and will also feature for the X1 and X2.

Although they are effectively twins underneath , The X2 , X4 and X6 will be radically different in style and behaviour in order to carve out the sporting niche for the BMW X line.

If you combine the two to provide practicality with a more sporting outline , especially in a rising glasshouse and dynamically sloping roofline you can see why BMW are evaluating a new niche to expand the BMW X-Line , known internally as Xsport.

Of course the market has changed and the luxury SUV is changing the landscape of the luxury market. Which is why BMW are moving ahead with a larger X7 model , which is being prepared as a concept for 2014. The interior incorporates ideas from the 7er and 5er GT including sliding rear individual seats to access the six and seventh seat which will be beneficial thanks to the 7er's wheelbase.
Heavily based on the next 7er , the X7 will effectively be the 7er of BMW SAVs including a range topping V12 and even an M Variant is not off the table.

The X7 points to a broader luxury car portfolio for BMW providing sustainability along with a potential 8er in Coupe , Cabrio and Gran Coupe.
BMW turns its focus to the luxury market as models like the upcoming MINIs , BMW UKL cars and BMWi aswell as many other BMW models keep BMWs C0 2 and CAFE levels respectable.

Given the reaction of the Tesla Model S we will also see a luxury mid-sized BMWi Sedan as a concept first ,showing the next phase of the BMWi family , after the Leipzig unveiling of the BMWi3 later this summer.

The BMW X4 Concept Car is currently on show at the BMW Welt.
