Yep, it is available as an option in Australia too. We just ordered our 40d with it and I think it was manufactured 2 weeks ago.

I'm guessing that US/NA market gets it in update year.

Maybe, but 6WA and 6WB have been available standalone options (no HUD required) for the F10 in Europe since MY 2012, yet 6WB is still not an option in the U.S. MY 2015, and just to get 6WA, you must also order 610 HUD.

I'd order 610 HUD to get 6WB and be happy doing so.

So would I, except in the U.S. F10, that isn't possible, as that will only get you 6WA not 6WB. While F10 in other markets have had 6WB for over 3 years, it is still not possible in the U.S.

My guess is that they want to further differentiate the X5 and X6.

I fully get product differentiation, X5 vs. X6, F01/F12, vs F10, but what I don't get is why the product differentiation is regional. I would think that would be a global decision across their product lines. Options for an F10 should be the same in U.S. as they are for F10 in other markets.

It's amazing how you make it look so simple.
I would love to have those .. but unfortunately my dealer is always threatening to end my warranty if I fiddle with anything, especially when it comes to electronics.
Couple of questions though how long did it take you to fix it? And any issues yet? Would it be different if a certified dealer fixed it? I don't know about most people but I don't like installing parts on my car on my own out of fear that something will go wrong.
Great work bud.

Haha, thank you for your positive comments, my friend. Believe it or not, I've never touched any part on a car in my life until I got this BMW - it's also what led me to fiddling/working on the rest of my families' cars. You never know how handy/good you can be at something until you try. So far, it's been running flawlessly. I had a tiny hiccup where the navigation wasn't showing correctly, and this was fixed by VO Coding the HU_NBT. I also created the thread for answering people's questions to the best of my knowledge.

As far as the timing, if you follow my instructions, it should only take you max 30 minutes being the first time. After that, it should only take you 5-10 minutes because then you will have mastered how to unhook the hooks and pull the Kombi cluster out and put it back in - the factory one and the 6WB are 100% identical in terms of exterior dimensions - that's why the process is the same for removing/installing. I took 1.5 hours the first time because I was trying to capture the best pictures for each step and each part carefully in a dark garage.

The dealer will not install the 6WB for you. @wdimagineer has already explained this before in the other 6WB thread because it's not an official BMW released part for the X5 in the United States (apparently it is available in countries like Australia and Saudi Arabia for MY2015), so the service department won't really know how to work with it correctly. However, this is an OEM part, which is why it works. This is also why learning/knowing coding helps or at least talking to others on the forum that know/understand coding.

If anything, I can help anyone who installs this and guide them through the coding process if they have any difficulty. That was also the reason why I did everything in order and verified from shawnsheridan and wdimagineer each step before starting because I did not want to do anything incorrectly or mess up (the same valid concern you and everyone has).

As others have said, great work and clear write-up. I'm leaning heavily towards doing this with my recent '15 F15. Only question I have is if you've had any feedback or commentary from your dealer once they saw the new cluster...?

I saw the note about certain updates, but am not savvy on the different kinds of dealer software work. For a layman like me what are the specific scenarios where this would need to be removed prior to visiting the dealer?

Thanks!

It needs to come out only for Dealer programming with ISTA/P. So, for routine maintenance it can be left in, but any service where the vehicle was brought in for a problem, or a service bulletin, it should be removed.

6WB Retrofit Directions - Coding Required

finally got around to installing my 6WB MFID Instrument Cluster.

Since mine was a brand new virgin Kombi, no EEPROM work was necessary to blank the donor car's mileage and VIN. Install was a breeze, and Coding was just a matter of adding 6WB to the VO, changing VO Production date to 1211, and VO Coding DKombi and HU_CIC.

Since my car does not have ECO Pro, I get just the Comfort and Sport mode displays.

Upgrading from the basic Kombi to either 6WA or 6WB is a dramatic improvement, and worth every penny. If I already had 6WA though, I personally would stick with it rather than invest in 6WB.

Dear Opasha, after reading this amazing post and watching the incredible pics, I am so close to buy and install this panel...I could try and instal by myself, but the only problem would be coding...since I only have Mac computers at home. I can see the software required runs only in windows, right? how could I code the retrofit? any chance to do that over teamviewer like others?

I believe it has to be done on a virtual machine. Here's a few great posts talking about Parallels - I'm not at all familiar with macs except for the basic functions I used to use from back in the day. I'm good at figuring things out, but I'd rather leave you with posts that have much more knowledge than me. Once you get a Windows virtual machine running, you can launch Team Viewer within there and I can help you.

I've used VMware on a MacBook Air with the USB to Ethernet adapter with no issue.

While I recommend a dedicated PC, virtualization options work just fine.
