Issue with parking brake 2016 f15

Not sure if anyone else is experiencing this but when I'm in my driveway on a hill and initiate the parking brake, When I turn off the engine the car has an additional slight movement as if the parking brake had slipped .

Did not experience this on my F10 so I'm wondering if I should bring to service .

There was a thread on this last month. It's quite normal from what I recall.

i personally have not experienced this much, and i noticed the only times the car moves after setting the brakes are if the car is held steady with the auto hold feature first and then setting the parking brakes. are u holding the car with auto hold first?

to paraphrase pragueX5 from the other thread:

1) press and hold brake pedal
2) engage Park on transmission paddle
3) turn off engine
4) release brake pedal

this appears to work for me - the parking brake holds the vehicle vs. the transmission. yes, it is contrary to how we did this with cars for last century, but it is what it is.

I doubt the vehicle is actually moving. When I engage the park brake on a flat service I don't get that jerk, I get it only when on an incline. I think its just the transmission releasing pre-loaded torque due to the incline but my X5 doesn't actually move overcoming the parking brake.

Initially I wasn't sure of what was happening with the new F15, so I did the following on an incline surface (from the days of owning a stick shift):

1) Depress and hold the brake pedal
2) Place the X5 in Neutral gear
3) Engage the Parking Brake
4) Place the X5 in Park gear
5) Release the brake pedal (car did NOT move)
6) Turn the engine off

Immediately there was a sound from the parking brake (engage/disengage I don't know?). This was followed by a perceptible movement backward and then the car came to a stop. My sense was the car was held by the transmission. FWIW, I'm not sure there should have been any preloaded torque as I set the parking brake while in neutral gear, and then engaged Park gear.

When instead I follow the procedure as described in previous post above - there is no audible parking brake sound when I release the brake pedal AFTER I turn off the engine. Also no shift backward??

Puzzled as anyone, but I think the latter protocol engages the PB properly for its intended purpose.

Yeah mine seems to move a little. I always use the parking break. Never had a problem. I will probably take a look at the parking brake next time I do maintenance see how much wear the pads have.

Might just need a slight adjustment, just don't adjust it too far out, you don't want it 'dragging' when disengaged. Mine operates the same as the OP describes, seems to be normal across the board.

Where in this process do you actually engage the parking brake?

Feedback regarding this issue - I complained about this, and dealer actually investigated and did troubleshooting. Eventually, they replaced the complete parking brake mechanism (actuator, control unit, cables, shoes)

Car now behaves as expected - no movement when parking brake is activated and car switched off (just as my F13 did).

It IS NOT normal behavior. Don't let lazy dealers BS you into this.

Just an FYI as to why some "feel" like something is wrong with their parking brake...based on the info from the TIS, the front & rear hydraulic brakes are applied first, then when the engine is not running...the electro-mechanical (rear axle) drum parking brake is applied and the front/rear hydralic brakes are released:

Unfortunately.... That's 100% normal.
