What does 20k miles includes

I am taking my X5 to a dealership Friday to fix cracking center console and since car has close to 20,000 perform 20k mile service.
What kind of maintenance should they perform under 20,000?

Same here - just had the 20k service last week on my '15 (Jan '15 build), and no battery replacement. Mine is a diesel, so they also performed an EGR software update. If you have a diesel and need the update, it can take a while, so you may want to make sure you pre-arrange for a loaner.

No, BMW did not automatically replace the battery at my second service for 35i. I think they check the battery, if it is still within a threshold, they may not replace it.

New batteries every 20K miles / two years is a bit excessive in my book. I had a 3/4 ton Dodge diesel with two batteries and in the ten years I owned it, only had the change the batteries once.

That being said, on my 2015 X5, at 20,006 miles, amongst a few other small items, the following was done:
- micro filter replacement
- battery swap
- oil service

The auto start/stop is pretty demanding on batteries (and the alternator). Maybe that's why they are getting replaced so early?

Could be the case! My wife usually turns that off, but I leave it on.

According to my dealer, they replace the wiper blades only when they show signs of wear, they do not automatically replace the blades.

Earlier BMW was replacing batteries (our X5 has two) every other oil changes. One of the reason is explained in this thread http://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...hlight=battery

According to my dealer, if I claim they don't clean well they are allowed to replace it.

Interesting. I must have read it somewhere or my SA told me, but I know that wiper blade changes happen every year.

That's what I thought, but I've gone for service in three dealers (BMW of Mountain View, Patrick BMW, Rallye BMW) and they all said the same thing to me. I need to specifically request the wiper change or it won't be done.

Several of years ago the wipers used to be changed without a request on every oil change or every time I went in for issues. My assumption is... Apparently, BMWNA got tired of the dealers essentially throwing away wipers by replacing perfectly good ones from their customers car and ultimately, BMWNA paying for it.
