The $64K question... how long will resin beds last before you have to change them?

Like I said, I've used it and this is well worth it! Even for us who don't have hard water, being able to wash the car in the FULL SUN and being able to walk away from it after rinsing it is pretty appealing. Really cuts down the time spent on washing a car.

Manufacturer says you will get 300-1200 gallons before you need to change the resin, depending on how bad your water is. Lets say 300 gallons the worse case scenario. Figure 15 minutes of spraying for a wash, that's 30 gallons per wash so about 10 washes.

300 gallons is not the worst case scenario. I got 50 or less in New Mexico. I hope that you get at least 300 out of yours. Have you measured your TDS?

From what I read if you turn a New Mexico faucet on rocks come out, that's not really this product's fault. Our local county water hardness is 24-120 parts per million at the tap and the Pacific NW has low to moderate water hardness. New Mexico on the other hand has some of the hardest water in the country according to the USGS. http://water.usgs.gov/owq/hardness-a....html#hardness

I know it isn't the product's fault. I'm just pointing out that 300 gallons is not a guaranteed minimum value. It could be much less than that. I know what the water is like in NM because I lived there. I tested the water myself so I know exactly what was coming out of the tap, I don't have to look it up. I should also point out that the claimed value for Alamogordo city water was SIGNIFICANTLY less than the actual value coming out of my tap.

I am asking if you measured it yourself because I know how to calculate your ACTUAL expected total production for the DIC-20 unit. I'm trying to help you and you are sending me links to information that I already know from personal experience. So never mind. Sounds like you are content with guessing.

What has your experience been thus far? I was looking at the same thing for a "touchless" car wash at home

In searching around online, here is my tentative plan, wanted to see how it compared to everyone else's routine:

1. Rinse car with hose (is a pressure washer really necessary?)

2. Spray wheels with wheel cleaner

3. Spray with waterless cleanser, allow to sit x 5 minutes (is this necessary?)

4. Rinse car with hose

5. Spray with rinseless cleanser, allow to sit x 5 minutes (is this necessary? The reason I'm using a waterless and rinseless cleanser is because of my desire not to do any wiping at all. Bad back and lazy work ethic. I figure I'd do both since I want to remove as much debris as possible without wiping but this might be redundant or just pointless altogether)

6. Rinse car with hose

7. Foam bomb

8. Rinse car with hose

9. Rinse car with deionizer (purchased from Costco)

10. Clean interior (less fancy here, Armorall wipes, handheld vacuum, and moistened microfiber towels where appropriate)

I would think you will need a lot of pressure for a touch less wash, I have been through some touch less car washes and they were all high pressure, much more so than a typical car wash.

Well the wife won't be happy, looks like one final purchase to complete my at-home car wash station

Here's my test window, I cleaned the glass with glass cleaner then blasted it with the water hose and let it air dry.

There's still a few water drops evaporating but 90% of the drops have dried and left no spots.

All clean and drenched with beads of water, per the instructions I rinsed and walked away.

Dried spot free except for a few soap spots which wipe right off.

Pictures cannot be found.

I am considering a CR System DI. After 2 years, would you purchase again?

Also, to extend life of resin, couldn’t it only be used for rinse?

Yes. Check out "obsessed garage" on YouTube and his website. Amazing stuff he's got the most insane car wash set ups and sells all this stuff and the best car wash products he demos himself. Great guy and former F80 M3 owner to boot.

And yes you can just use to rinse. I lucked out and had a whole house system put in and luckily the faucet on the front of garage is on city water and thus on my filtration system. So I have it built in.

I am using the Fleck 5600SXT 48,000 Grain Water Softener. This is the result of my consultation with the water softener company. It did a good job and did not leave a water spot on my car.

I live in Los Angeles...we can't wash our own cars.

Luckily most car washes here are 100% hand.

You can't wash your own car in LA? Why not? Note even something like Optimum No Rinse?

They fine you. California is in a perpetual drought. They steal all their water from Colorado. And it's not like they physically can't. But if reported by a neighbor etc. you know how it goes. I washed my car occasionally up in Ventura which is just north of LA. But we were always in the drought status due to less people sucking down the water supply.
