If it is the easy method if coding, why a lot of questions.
I personally think using E-Sys is much easier and it's free if you can do it yourself.
And all the guides are there, I even share my cheatsheet publicly.
Anyway, just a thought that I want to share. Thread title doesn't says it all.
It is easy but limited functionality and it does not seem to work with the latest I-Step. I am thinking of switching to E-Sys but I have a MacPro. Will download fusion, install windows and see how it goes. I will order the cable now.

I will most likely destroy my car codes :-(

Use VirtualBox or BootCamp in OSX.
You won't destroy your car codes.
Just back it up before you make any changes.

It is much easier. But ya limited. And difficult when my car doesn't cooperate

It's "easy" because you don't need to buy a windows computer or download and decipher software with a horrid interface like E-Sys. E-Sys is no easier than using the expert mode on Bimmercode, and you can code the vast, vast majority of what people want to code with radio buttons and drop-down menus and never go into expert mode.

You might also consider that one or two people are asking 90% of the questions. Some people can make anything difficult...

Some people get intimidated by multiple code lines and they feel more comfortable clicking a radio button or checking an option of (aktive) and they are done. Newer cars (picked end of July 2017) have most of the CAFD lines encrypted just to beat part time and hobby coder. Your point is well taken, but user of this or similar thread are turned away from E-Sys by similar sarcastic comments. I have used E-Sys since 2006 and find the mobile software a lot faster and easier. It is true that I had to go back to E-Sys when some of the setting were not available in the mobile software, but some known old option were NOT available even in E-Sys. After all, it looks like very soon nobody will be able to code either way. BMW is encrypting more and more of it's ECU. Take it easy on folks who do not want to try something they are not familiar with. Happy coding in E-Sys or through mobile software, after all, the result is the same, either AKTIV or NICHT_AKTIV.

Just joined, hey all. Back in a BMW for the first time in 13 years with a 2015 X5--I've been playing in Cayennes for awhile. I'm amazed at the amount of tech in this car and now, after finding this thread, I'm salivating even more. Question, and forgive me if this has been addressed and I missed it... Has anyone coded the ability to change the color schemes of the LED "mood lighting" feature? I can do orange/white/white, blue/white/white, orange/orange/white, etc. I'd love to be able to do an orange/blue/white...I am a Florida Gator alum, and that would just be cool..... Curious.....

So, I picked up my car today after getting the MPPK programmed. The service department also updated my iDrive firmware which is now F025-17-07-503. I no longer have access to NU-HBT_EVO and Rear_Function_Module. I tried slow communication, let the car sit for over an hour and retried, but I still don't have access to the above stated modules. Anybody have experience with the new firmware by any chance?

Just received my vgate today from Amazon (thank you Prime Sunday delivery...) and did some minor coding with the BimmerCode app. Wow, that's addictive! Starting out slowly with the check-box style coding, will work my way up to expert and, probably, explore the laptop option. But, so far, very quick and easy. Got some errors and cleared them with bimmerlink.

Coded:
Signals in HUD
Door handle LEDs on reverse
Disclaimer off
M startup animation
Mirror fold with comfort access
Cellphone ringtone pass through

More to come, thanks to all who have contributed to this thread

Unhappy

Hey all,

I just got Carly BMW with the wifi adaptor and the pro app. My first time using this device and tried to code a simple thing in the COMBI module. The coding seems to go through fine but now I'm getting multiple malfunction warnings, including the instrument panel. I then tried to restore the backup that the app made. The backup failed towards the end. So now my car's instrument panel is kind of out of wack. It seems to think my car is a 5 series when it's a F15 x5. The RPM and speedometers don't work correctly and fuel gauge stays at empty. I tried restoring a couple times but same result.
I've emailed the log to Carly support. While I'm waiting, any other suggestions?
If I can't get this fixed, is the only option to drive to the dealer? Can they restore the software to normal?

Any suggestions appreciated.

Have you used the BimmerLink app to check and clear all fault codes? It's a $26.99 app in the App Store and, from what I can tell, pretty much essential when coding. I got multiple faults when using the code app and then cleared them with BimmerLink. Hope that works/helps

EDIT: I just reread that you used the Carly app for coding. I was talking about BimmerCode. I haven't read much on here about the Carly app. Hopefully someone on here can help. Let us know what you find out from the dev... Maybe Bimmerlink would still help

Alex at Alpine

Hi All,

Just wanted to add another post highly recommending Alex for any coding here in the SoCal area. I took my 2017 X6 to him this past weekend and he was able to add a lot of extra features for me quickly and everything works great with no problems. Alex really know what he's doing and is very helpful. Feel free to email him at alex@alpinemms.com for any coding you want to do.

Did he use E-Sys or this Carla whatever thing?
There are a lot of guys that knows how to code using E-Sys. Almaretto , me, and a few other guys in this forum.
Remote coding also possible.
Besides, I share my cheatsheet publicly.

The Android app must be new... As of last month there was no Android app, only iOS. I am an Android user myself but I used an older iPad I had collecting dust to do my coding. Since I have already bought the iOS app, I am not inclined to buy the Android version. Good they now have the Android version. Should be the same functionality but don't know for sure.

Well, the car spent two and half days at the dealer and they were able to restore the software and now everything back to normal. wheww...

I'll be returning the carly adaptor. I know that lots of people have had success with it, I don't know why I just didn't have any luck.

The developer was responsive though to my support emails. They tried multiple beta apps to try to restore my instrument panel, but with no luck.

So, as it always has been, know what you're doing when you code, and be prepared to deal with the risk.

So there is an updated coding cheat sheet available or we have to look inside for new features?
