Replacing side mirror parts.
Someone hit my wife's F15 X5 side mirror in the parking lot while she was at work. Broke the led part, and the trim around the mirror.
Of course no note, so up to me or insurance to replace. After pricing parts, decided to tackle myself. Pic 1: Getting the mirror out. Tilt down, and get fingers behind and pull straight out. Disconnect 3 wires, and put in safe place. Pic 2: damage to led. Pic 3: damage to surround. Pic 4 by moving mirror manually on the mount, was able to get pieces off, and replace. Pic 5: Couldn't figure out why the new piece would not go into place. Photo of broken screw mount still in place with piece still held in by screw. It was preventing new piece to go in. Didn't see the screw when I removed all the pieces. All up cost just over $200 Australian dollars for the two pieces. Better than the deductible for the insurance. Took about 25 minutes, but took my time as I didn't want to break any other bits. Cheers, Ken |

I need to do this as I have damaged the gloss surround - Part 3 on the diagram.
Any tips or hints would be greatly appreciated? So the mirror just comes off by puling (scary)? When the mirror is removed, how is part 3 removed? Ian. |

Once you get the glass and cover off, the removal of the surround should be straight forward.
Ben's DIY should help. RG Sport - Mirror Cover removal DIY http://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1277633

I had to replace part #3 recently also. was pretty easy as mine was really busted up, but no damage to any other part, miraculously. Totally my fault - caught the left side mirror while backing out of the garage, uh, rapidly...

Apologies for digging up an old post, but I'm in Australia and need to replace the side mirror as well (similar incident).
Does anyone know if OP is still active? I'm wanting to know where he sourced the parts from. Cheers. |
