Not a 5.0 liter or 3.5 liter

I see this a lot and I just wanted to let members here aware that BMW X5's are not equipped with a 5.0 or 3.5 liter engines. In the USA X5's with V8 engines are 4.4 liter and inline 6 engines are 3.0 liter. I think most people are trying to say 50i and 35i but naturally write 5.0 and 3.5 instead

Okay carry on

Hahaha, along with that MB 6.3/63 products are not 6.3L engines and the 43 products are not 4.3L, the 3.0t found in Audi products is not a Turbo. We live in some crazy times.

these days, 40i, 30e, 35i, 20i, 50i, 35d, makes no absolute sense. Doesn't indicate SAE/DIN horsepower, cubic capacity, or anything...just monikers from the past.

kind of...lol. The last gen MB 6.3 is legally a 6.3, I believe it's 6.208L which for most governments' tax and regulation purposes categorizes it as a 6.3L

Also today, you can still buy a SLK 55 AMG, and it actually has a 5.5L motor! It's called the M152, but it's simply the NA version of the M157, the current "63" motors.

SLK 55 AMG 2012+

M157 motor is 5.5 and is in vehicles with the 63 moniker, the cla45 is a 2.0L motor M133. C43 has 3.0L M276.

In 2012 MB stated that 63 will be a nod to the heritage of the brand's tuning potential and the 300 SEL 6.3. Going forward it would be a model not a engine designation however it is still believed by some that some of these vehicles have a 6.3L in it.

I edited my response, to the "last gen" M156.

At least MB still sticks with the 5.5 and actually uses a 5.5

When the E53s first hit, they were badged 3.0 for the 6 cylinder and 4.4 for the 8. I guess most assume that the change correlates to the engine size.

Yup it was a 4.8l V8 and a glorious one at that! Probably the last (in my home) BMW V8 that was problem free.

Yes, I believe the E53 had a 4.6is which had a 4.6 liter and after that a 4.8is with a 4.8 liter.

here's a crazy one for you... the X5 diesel designations throughout the world were:

3.0d
30d
35d
40d
50d

All used a 3.0L Diesel motor, though there were two different ones used...M57 and the newer N57.

just give everyone this legend to use:

20: "fit"
28: "fit ex"
30: "civic"
35: "civic si"
50: "civic type r"
60: "accord v6"
M: "NSX"

Pretty soon, when they do the "45"s, I'm going to be out of Honda models to parallel it with.

all I know is, don't buy a BMW with a "28" badge and I'll won't be disappointed.

Although the E70 48i was a 4.8. I loved that motor on that chassis. it wasn't DI or FI, pulled well and had traditional steering. Achilles heel was the coolant line in the valley. Other than that it was a nimble vehicle w/ m-sport and built with the right proportions and wheel pairings.

And to make it extra crazy, for some markets like China (due to taxation based on displacement), the 50i is actually a <4L motor which produces less power, but they don't tell you that unless you look at the specs. Or Audi does the stupid 35TFSI, 40TFSI, 45TFSI, 50TFSI which tells you jack.

Also BMW does not make a V6 engine. They only make a straight 6. A lot of people don't realize this.
