First 1/8 of Fuel Gauge gone in 20 miles?

Hi all, i've had the x5 35i for a few months now. Every time i filled up fully, the first 1/8 bar on the fuel gauge is used in about 20-30 miles or so..Anyone else experience this kind of issue? or is this by design? seems like the second 1/2 of the tank last longer..

Yeah I feel like when I fill up, the needle doesn't go all the way to full. Just a hair off the Full mark. It bothers the OCD side of me.

I have a 50i and experience the same thing in stop and go city driving but that's seen anywhere throughout the fuel gauge. As long as I can get 360-380 miles out of a tank I am good.

I have a 50i and this happens every time I fill up. The first time it freaked me out because I thought I knew the mpg would be bad but didn't think it would be THIS bad.:

I also owned an F150 that did the same thing.

Not really sure why it happens though.

Happens to my 50i all the time, even worse in winter time.

I reckon the spouses of all of you had the "Back-off, Leadfoot" coding option for the gauge enabled. I don't know what it is in German, but it probably has about 40 syllables and ends in werfahren.

Lol 380 miles to a tank and a 50i. Sounds like you drive in the slow lane a lot.....

It probably has more to do with when the gas station pump shuts off than an inaccurate gas gauge. The tank may not really be full.

360-380 from one tank? Thats approximately 16-17mpg. Is most of your driving highway?

Im averaging about 11mpg and get around 200-215 miles per tank. I'm rarely on the highway and I rarely drive in comfort or eco-pro.

Same here, just filled up under a 1/4 left and only got 270 from 17 gallons so just under 16 mpg. All city for me as well on a 50i.

I ran the tank fairly low last week but didn't think it was dangerously low.

I had what appeared to be about 3 gallons left.

I received a message on the idrive stating that I had less than 30 miles to empty and that I needed to fill up asap.

I did.

Filled up to 18.3 gallons.

Thought that was very odd.

Mine did the same, had the dealer replace the sensors under warranty.

Mixed driving mostly highway. I was over 400 doing 80+ with 90% highway.
This week with 9-5ers and school back in session I will average about 350-360 with mostly city driving. My worse was maybe 320-340 with more spirited driving mixed in.

Most of the time I have sport mode set to chassis only.

But after thinking about it more, my poor mileage is also likely due to the fact that 80% of my driving is about 6 miles round trip and there's quite a bit of cold starts.

Good thing I love sound of the cold start with the muffler delete.

I can usually top up an extra $2-$3 at the pump which translates to almost a full gallon. That’s another 10 miles!

I think the behavior is normal. I dislike Japanese cars they are the opposite. It seems the first half of the tank lasts forever then you get no range on the second half. Really surprised me first time.

How far did you drive and at what speed? It can happen on 50i.
