I haven't had any issues with iDrive or the control arms. How much did that cost?
iDrive controller is about $900 to include labor if I remember the receipt (luckily under warranty) and I did the control arms myself at about $130 a piece. That was at 19k for the controller and 25k miles for the arms. The control isn't needed as it's just a plastic ring that breaks and binds up. Once it's removed it spins freely I've read since. Think dush did that fix sometime ago.

Ha, I was just talking to a friend about this. I have owned lots of older BMWs over the years and recently picked up a 2015 50i for my wife. With 50k on it, it's the "newest" BMW I have ever bought. I've never had a BMW under warranty (I do all my own work and am tolerant of busted shit)

So I have the dealer pull a warranty report on the car, and I am SHOCKED to see that there were no, none, nada warranty claims ever made on the car. It has never been in for unscheduled maintenance.

Every single BMW I have ever owned has a literal scroll of stuff that has had to be addressed under warranty. I have a 2008 M5 that I purchased at ~61k that I swear was at the dealer every couple of weeks under warranty. Same for my 2002 M3. Usually I'm like "good! all the bad stuff has been sorted!"

So .. the X5 is either (1) reliable as heck, or (2) prone to delayed failure of critical stuff. At the moment I'm thinking, based on my very small sample set, that it's a damn reliable platform. Causal browsing of this forum shows no outstanding issues (*cough* S65/S85 ror bearings, etc). No issues in the ~10k miles we've had it, fingers crossed, but I'm aware she's a complicated beast and when (not if) something goes wrong it might be a mess.

For now I'm enjoying it (even though it's my wife's)

I've had control arms, front left wheel bearing, rear suspension air compressor, oil pan with gasket, leaking rear crankshaft seal, fuel pressure sensor, washer fluid tank, steering column, and iDrive head unit replaced under warranty in the last 49800 miles of ownership.

As you can see they are all stuff that can fail with any car and doesn't really have much to do with the N63 motor. The front wheel bearing was likely damaged in the same incident that shattered two of my rims. As far as I'm concerned I'd like to believe that all the problems have been addressed. I've even gotten the spark plugs done under the maintenance plan, and I just had the transmission fluid and filter changed.

In regards to reliability
So far it out wins my Lexus, Nissan, Acura, Audi cars

Currently on par with my previous Honda

Maintenance: Regular maintenance up to 50k at BMW dealer (oil/filter changes), tires replaced x2 with Delinte Tires, spark plugs/brake fluid replaced around 60k. Will be replacing brake pads/rotors soon (around $500 parts and installation combined)
Mods to engine: RaceChip

Has gone through rough Ohio winters (lake effect snow is terrible)

My next car will be a BMW based on the fact on how reliable this X5 was.
Extremely lucky guy, you should also play lottery.

To the OP, thanks for sharing your good fortune. I'm close to 60K in my newly acquired X5.
Seriously? You’re going to put those brakes on the X5? Really? Spend a few bucks more and get Textars; they make the OEM and are considerably cheaper than buying at the dealer (they jus don’t come in a BMW box).

Thanks for the insight. I'm still in the research phase as I still have some life left on my current brakes.

15 35i with 56,xxx miles. No issues in the 20,xxx miles I’ve owned it other than a light went out in one of the door handles, which was repaired under warranty. Mine is garage kept and we have mild weather here in South Carolina, so I’m sure that plays a big part. Fingers crossed! I’d love to keep it a few more years!

This has given me some peace of mind, I just hit 65k with my 14 35i last night and haven't had any real issues with it yet knock on wood. Ive been planning on tuning it with BM3 soon but have been hesitant because of the amount of miles I put on it. Going to do one step colder spark plugs shortly as well as performance ignition coils. Any input???

When people say "zero issues", are you saying zero repairs to the entire vehicle? If so, that's pretty impressive.

Mobil 1 5W30 Synthetic, I just stock up on them when they have Mobil 1 rebates. For filter, I just buy the BMW one from eBay. My local (non-BMW) shop charges like $14-20 to change it with what I take to them.

Nice, I have an indy shop close to me that charges $15 labor for oil changes when I supply oil & filter. I thought Mobil 1 0W40 European formula was preferred for the N55.

Looking to get my next car.

Current contenders:
2019/20 X5 - very impressed BY interior and driving (but need to add race chip as my current X5 with racechip is better in terms of torque feeling, but handling was AMAZING)
5 or 7 Series
Benz CLS
Tesla S (or maybe 3)? Haven't driven these two.
Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT
Maserati Ghibli

Ruled out:
X7
RR Velar
RR Sport
Lexus GS
All Audi's

Any thoughts? Also will be keeping current X5, this car will just be an addition.

Going for features/luxury and the "look" of the car. Going for around 80k.

Since you do have an SUV and ruled out X7, it appears you don't care for large room.
I'd go with 5 or 7 series. They're both roomy, luxurious and good looking, especially the 5.

I absolutely loved the 5 series (540 and 550) but, it still has the old BMW interior compared to the new X5 interior.

Honestly going to come to 5 series or X5.

I especially need the video in motion haha... what a game changer.
