X5 - X6 not friendly for tall people anymore
The title says everything .
I was hanging around the local dealer the other day when i saw 1 perfect red X6 M and another blue X5 M next to it . I opened the door of the red beast and put my self in . OOOOppppsss something felt very wrong . I adjusted the seat to the lowest possible setting . My head was scratching the roof . I could not stretch my body at all . It felt like i was inside a Porsche 911 . The seat also felt smaller . It wasnt hugging my body with the same love as it was with the big comfort seat at the previous generation I am moving next to the blue X5 assuming that the coupe shape of the X6 might be the reason ( but then i thought that when i had the previous X6 generation it was feeling just comfortable ) and , ooopppsssss . It was exactly the same . I could not fit my 6'5 (or 196 cm ) with comfort inside latest BMW trucks . My head was scratching the roof . Coming from both previous generations X5 and X6 i am leting BMW knows that their new SUV is out of my choices . Latest generation X3 and X4 were much better in terms of headroom . Even Previous generation X1 felt very very roomy . I will say exactly the same for the coupe M4 and the M4 convertible . They are just shorter and smaller inside . The lack of moon roof makes a small difference to me but the windshield feels like it has been moved much lower . . I can say with all my confidence that ALL the latest BMW cars are significantly smaller inside . I would never put my self inside any car that doesnt give space to my body . It is not just a matter of comfort, but a matter of safety too . BMW Big dissapointment . I am keeping the M5 till i see if i will have to switch brand ! |

I have to ask .... are you 100% sure you had it on the lowest ..... A colleague is taller than you and purchased an X5 because he likes the headroom ! |

I'm 6'2" and fit very comfortably in my X5 with room to spare...seat is not even all the way back. Although it sounds like headroom is your main issue.

My sister is 5'10 and said she felt that the cabin is smaller .
I think that our height is not equally distributed to our body, some people have longer legs some other not, or the same with the upper body etc . I am comparing my self inside the previous and the new vehicle and i made this statement . |

6'6" here. 225 lbs. I've got tons of room in my f15! I don't even have the seat anywhere near all the way back. If I do I am behind the "b" pillar. Headroom wise is at least a hand width. I'll have to measure.
And... in response to porsche 911, that is one of the few sports cars that fit me really well. |

6'2, plenty of space in x5....but sitting in back of x6, my head was close to roof.

I am shocked by most of the answers here . You guys put me more into investigating this .
Unless the GCC ( middle east ) specs for the seats are different , i cannot imagine any other reason for that. Is it possible that the demo cars have some safety settings regarding the seats ? I was also very curious what is the reason behind felling so comfortable at the X1 , X3 , X4 that are smaller vehicles, and not at the X5 , X6 . I will go again to the dealer and will ask for explanation. Then i will post again here . Thank you all for your answers |

Good idea, check it out again. Remember to use the same angle for the rear of the seat that you use in your current car. There is a tendency to sit more erect on test drives thus making it seem like there is less headroom.
The F15 may have less headroom than the previous gen (I dont know) but it is still very generous. |

Did you tried one without sunroof ? I am 6'6 and easily can jump into my car even with the hat on. The comfort seat is not even the back as much is possible.
