All Season vs Snow on X6/X5
So we bought our X6 with the M Sport package and 20" summer tires with the intention of swapping them out for winter tires (with wheel swap).
I came across a great deal and bought a set of 594 19" wheels (which I think are the standard X6 wheels) for $1600 delivered, set was a takeoff from a brand new X6 and is coming with the original all-season tires and TPM included. the best price I could get on a decent looking set of 19" wheels from discount tire or tirerack with tax/shipping and TPM was $1650, so for the same price I am getting BMW OEM wheels and a set of brand new tires, couldn't resist. The problem is that my plan was to use winter/snow tires and not all-season. On our previous car (X3) we swapped out all-seasons with winter tires and both my wife and I could tell the difference and felt more secure driving in the snow. The X6 weighs almost 1,000 lbs more than the X3 though and I am thinking with the wider stance and added weight the all-season tires might be fine. So would you guys 1) stick with the all-season tires for the winter 2) pull them off and try to sell them and buy a set of winter tires |

You can always buy dedicated snow tires and sell the all-season. There are plenty of people who don't live in harsh climates and all-season will do wonderfully for them.

We do have hot summers and cold winters, all-season is better called no-season. It's bad in summer and bad in winter.
The dedicated tires are MUCH better. In winter time you need a narrower tires, wide ones are bad. |

Even though we dont get a ton of snow here in Vancouver anymore, I decided to go with dedicated snows (staggered) on my 469M's and have been very happy with the performance in light snow and icy conditions. I went with the Pirelli Scorpion Snow & Ice, good tire, and still decent performance in the wet.
