Race Gas 50i
road tracking the 50i msport tomorrow.
wondering if anyone has info on race gas use. i was thinking it might benefit me due to my tune and exhaust....i really feel BMW ECUs and such really reduce timing when pushing the limits of boost and power on pump octane gas with the BMS tune turned up and gthaus exhaust, i really feel higher octane may get me those few extra horses and allow the torque to hit the wheels without computer interference due to slight knock and detonation of possible shit gas..

A question only for burger in my opinion. higher octane can only reduce power in your tune is not for that octane. Oxygenated fuel on the other hand will make u run lean.

It is possible. Octane is an indication of how gas will burn, not explode. The higher the octane, the more controlled the burn in the combustion chamber. Higher octane won't add HP, but it will keep the ECU from retarding the timing because there shouldn't be any detonation. In other words, you engine should be operating near max, given ambient temps are low and humidity is low. Low octane fuel will explode in the combustion chamber - exactly like small hammers tapping the top of your piston on each power stroke. One day, a hole will appear in one of the pistons at an inconvenient time.
Now ELF oxygenated racing fuel is completely different... Yikes.

well the road track was a success....scrubbed these michelin PSS very nicely..
drag times!!!!! 13.44 at 104.5 MPH this was with half a tank of gas, and a very hot engine after road track laps. with launch control a few 335i pre-2010 had the same times, a brand new nissan Z Nismo ran 13.45, an old Camaro LSswap was 13
