The US and DIN/EU use different ways to measure weight, so on the German website E70 xDrive50i:

Leergewicht EU in kg = 2225

According to this spec new F15 xDrive50i:

EU in kg = 2250

So E70 25 kg (55 lbs) lighter than F15...

But E70 and F15 are not comparably equipped, so I assume if the equipment is the same for both, F15 should be slightly lighter. Don’t forget that BMW is NOT utilizing light-weight technology for F-series, new 7-series which is G-series will be the first model with such technology.

The new X5 design is just awful. I'm not sure what the designer was thinking (or not thinking I should say). The X5 looks plain weak, especially looking at the front and the sides. It has lost its original appeal. They took a good design and ruined it. I truly hope they can save the X5 when the M comes out.

I hope they don't go ahead and mess up the upcoming X6 while they are at it.

OMG! BMW - what have you done? Those squinty headlights, those "racing" fender vents (supposedly for "improved fuel economy"... How about not increasing physical size instead???), that awful "aftermarket display glued on with Velcro strip" iDrive display... Not to mention the ugly steering wheel on M-sport (with its tiny "retro" airbag area)...
Oh well, plenty of other choices out there...

After watching the video which provides more depth perspective than the photos, it's not all bad. I take back my earlier statement, the rear light cluster and hatch area above the tail lamps do resemble the X3.

That being said BMW stayed really conservative with the exterior. Looks better than the ML but as I stated earlier the "RR Sport" takes the award for best exterior design IMHO

Te interior is undeniably more upscale than not only the E70, but just about anything else in the class. The design might be a bit too busy, but the qualiy is very obvious.

The exterior is disappointing though. The large headlamps increase the visual weight of the front end way too much. It looks very bulky and truck like. This might appeal to some people, but I always liked the E70 for its aggressiveness.

Sales success, I'm sure.

Does not look sporty at all, more truckish. Not my cup of tea.

Is this the first time an X5 has been offered with optional 3rd row?

No, but the E70's was pretty useless.

Even to put some kids back there in a booster, or adult for a short trip? I have two kids under 3, and with two car seats in the back of my AH3, or wife's CR-V, means we're limited to carrying just a single adult passenger at any given time. The car seats are practically bolted in, and no one can sit between them.

The interior is gorgeous. I love that new matte wood trim.

The exterior is a step back in some ways from the old car. It likes the fluidity of lines and cohesiveness of design that the old car had.

I didn't like it, I'll wait for new Q7, see how does that look. The lights both front and back look ordinary. Trying to fuse front lights with kidney grill looks good in 3 series but is total misfit here. No change in length at all. Weight reduction is negligible. Too much Japanese/Korean style exterior.
Interior is miles ahead though, very nice.

Does anybody know what this new button does? Does it have to do with all this aero stuff (close/open aero flaps)?

Also I like the new lock/unlock buttons on the doors.

You mean massive body roll, a steering system that is not connected to the front wheels, and the engine note played through the speaker system?!?!?!?!
