Tint color (not %) match
Hey guys...I just got the X5 tinted and I can't be more disappointed. The job was done well... It's just a bad color match. I've used SunTek on each of my last 4 cars and it's been great... But I haven't had to match it with any factory tint, so it's always looked good.
The SunTek Carbon has a distinct green-ish hue that I never noticed until seeing it on the front windows next to the factory tints. The BMW factory color is much more gray/blue and nicer to look at. Can you guys let me know which manufacturer you went with? I'm so dissatisfied that I'm looking to change it out this week. : |

Check this thread from bimmerfest
http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...highlight=tint I have not done mine yet for my F85 but I've been told by my shop that 3M is the way to go. |

I think you need to make sure the tint doesn't have any metallic or other UV-blocking materials. You need to get the basic tint with nothing added.
Even if you go with 3M make sure you get the Color Stable instead of the higher end tint that they offer as those will show a different hue under reflection. On my X6 I have the Color Stable 35% which is a perfect match. However, in the other tint thread it seems like owners of X5 say their tints are darker than the X6/X5M/X6M. 3M Color Stable come in these %s. Have them use a tint meter to measure the rear window as well as the front window. For my X6 the rear was about 31% and the front clear window was about 79%. Multiply the tint light transmission % to your window's light transmission % to get the final result. So if you look at the 3M chart you'll notice that 3M Color Stable 35 is actually not 35% light transmission but rather 39%. For my car, .39 * .79 = .31, which matches the rears % perfectly. If you're looking for 3M film, Z-Tech uses 3M and they have several locations. That's where I got mine done. |

How does it look? I thought about doing that instead of just getting the fronts to match. When you do put a ceramic tint over the factory tint then the reflections should match right? But aren't your windows extremely dark?

The windows don't look any darker than normal to me from the outside, but it is a little darker now when looking through the rear view mirror. It's my wife's car, so I don't really drive it much. But she never noticed that it was any darker. I am curious as to why the suv's come pretinted on the rears while the sedans don't. |

I've arranged with my dealer to install suntek carbon xp prior to delivery. My understanding is I won't have tint from the factory though so there should be no issues with matching. At least that's my understanding. I'm starting to get a little worried though.
Do US cars get factory tint standard? Here we have a factory sun protection glazing option but I did not choose it (and my dealer did not even tell me about it). |

SunTek Carbon has been awesome on my previous cars and the only reason I can tell a difference is because I was trying to match. Don't be worried... It looks great when tinting all windows the same. Here is a pic of my trade in with SunTek Carbon 35% (looks darker in this pic than in person). |

It's hard to tell from the pic, but I have SunTek Carbon 35% on the fronts. There is definitely a greenish hue to it in direct sunlight. Initially it bothered me a lot, but I've gotten used to it and decided to leave it.
