Can you clarify what Reighngold is? Is that something that's in the latest version of pszd?

Rheingold is separate piece of diagnostic and coding software that also comes with over 200 documents of step-by-step repair and replacement guides. Also goes by ISTA+, ISTA-P, and ISTA-D.

Thanks for sharing. I am working on mine. Is there any chance you could please send me the link for Reighngold 3.45?

For me it took around 2 weeks as I was clueless, but in reality it should only take a couple hours.

Below is a list of parts I used.

32306859265 - Touch sensor module
32307851355 - Steering wheel wiring harness for Touch sensor module
32307851513 - M sports steering wheel leather without heat as my car didn't come with heat.
61317847654 - Switch, MF steering wheel, M-Sport (You do not need this however reighngold complains about the old switch unit)

After installing all the hardware you need to VO code BDC_Body, KAFAS2 and KOMBI and run a calculated test plan in reighngold in order to calibrate the new touch sensor.

Unfortunately Reighngold is required which was the only reason it took me so long.

I recommend downloading version 3.45 as the other versions gave me trouble when trying to run the calculated test plan.

My brother lives in Germany so I had him ship me the parts.

I, too, decided to skip swapping out the buttons on my steering wheel - it would have been ~200 euro for the new switch cluster but I did not want to call attention to the feature.

Photos are attached but the process is pretty simple. The "touch enabled wheel" is definitely a different part, it has an additional set of wires that my m-sport w/heat did not. These wires connect to the new touch module. The new wiring harness is required for all US vehicles and is basically an extension that has the new leads for the touch module.

Not sure if all of these were entirely necessary but I VO coded BDC, KAFAS2 and KOMBI. The buttons and notifications worked at this point but the new module caused a malfunction each time I tried to activate it. I used Rheingold to clear the errors and it automatically calibrated the new touch module as part of its "calculated test plan."

I am pretty new to this myself but did you code the features into the system? Rheingold is just for the calibration process, from what I gather from the other post's. I forget the software used for coding but there is a section on this forum about it that will help. Anyway good luck and hope that helps somewhat.

Need Rheingold

I think I am going to try this if I can find the parts (touch wheel, sensor, wire harness).

Can anyone PM a link to get Rheingold?

These would be the parts (I think) for my 2014 X5 50i. I did ask my local BMW dealership and parts told me it should all be plug & play minus the coding. I didn't ask about coding.

An update on adding TJA to my 2016 US F15...

I have it working, and it's pretty nice, but it depends on very specific conditions to actually work. most of the traffic I sit in isn't on a large highway, so I get a lot of the "lane too narrow or not detected" messages and then it shuts off. I suspect the version on the G series will be more advanced.

I used the $300 Quidzel module so I didn't have to change the steering wheel or anything else and I don't have to keep hands on the wheel for it to work, but I'm usually holding the wheel anyway.

Wow thanks for sharing this! Did you need the Rheingold software, or is just ESYS coding required? I have been pining for this feature, just didn't want the retrofit hassle.

I just used Esys for coding. Didn’t need to calibrate. The Quidzel chip is tiny and easy to install. You just remove the airbag (two spring clips) and plug in the module into the existing 3 wire harness where the buttons are, then pop the airbag back on.

Hmm didn't hear there was an aftermarket quick fix. Given it's cheaper than buying a whole new wheel and then doing all the wiring etc. why hasn't this been more wifey popular route?

Cool, thanks. Ordered one yesterday so we’ll see how it goes. I’ll post some pics of the install.

Quick question - do you plug the module in line with the cruise control buttons on the left side of the wheel?

*Never mind - they sent me a video link. Actually plugs into the right side (which seems counterintuitive)

That is weird but sweet.

That's why I figured I'd post about it. Also, it's very new, especially for the F15.

Just so I'm understanding this correctly this whole thing is to allow the car to actually manipulate the steering wheel to follow the car in front of you. Up to a max speed of 63mph it coded.

Also I noticed they keep saying "test" and I good to assume this is a legal term they're adding to describe the function as to not get in trouble? It does give you full function of TJA. They even mention on the site to use this and then you can purchase the full retro kit?! A bit Confusing

I'm not a lawyer, but...

From reading the website, this module emulates the signal output by the OEM touch steering wheel and module. So, the car thinks you are holding onto the wheel, but you don't actually have to be.

Mine arrives Monday. Once I get it up and running I will report back.
