Hamilton Presented with Senna Race Helmet
After winning pole position (just barely, over Vettel) in Montreal, Ayrton Senna's family presented one of Senna's race helmets to Hamilton at the Senna Corner. This is Hamilton's 65th, and he's now tied with Senna.
My son and I had the good fortune of witnessing this in person. Other images from qualifying here: http://bradleymclain.zenfolio.com/p829363257 |

Just barely?
Lap record and several 10ths faster isnt 'just barely' in f1. They were .004 seconds apart before his last try, where he up'd the pace and vettle couldnt match. Should be a great race!

you're right, was mis-remembering the final difference as the .004.
race was boring -- Hamilton won by a mile, Vettel made up a lot of ground after broken wing, came 4th. Ricciardo ran a great race. |

... The Force India drama was pretty interesting; although I don't believe Ocon could've gotten past Daniel (a bit of a Ricciardo fan-boy here). ... Waiting for Max to throw a tantrum because he keeps retiring due to unreliability issues. ... Grosjean gripping about Sainz ... what's the FIA going to do? ... Again too bad for Alonso ... but likely good for Indy next year. |

Would have been interesting to see if Vettel could have gotten by Ricciardo with a couple more laps. Perez and Ocon held on really well. Those battles were the most interesting bits.
i posted some photos i took at the race: http://bradleymclain.zenfolio.com/p563040946 Quote:

Hamilton doesn't deserve to be in the same sentence as Senna. just look who all the retired and current F1 drivers says who the best was, everyone INCLUDING Michael Schumacher say SENNA hands down

IMO, the biggest key to Hamilton's success these past championships is the car. Right after Vettel's slump with Red Bull, the Silver Arrows just dominated the field too much to negate. Sure Hamilton is a exceptionally talented driver, but car is the real hero. Without it, he'd be Bottas back with Williams. Outside of the cars ... what drivers racing against Hamilton can really compare to Senna's contemporaries. Vettel? Is about it. Alonso if he was back with Ferrari. Other than that what other ex-Champion can really can really take it to him, except Vettel perhaps Kimi. The mid 80's - 90's were so chock full of "greats" ... to me, that's what make Senna so great ... he was great racing against greats. Because when you really think of it ... Senna only had 3 F1 championships in 10 years. Granted, lots of other accolades though. Still I think some greats are being modest. |

I dont believe any one ever said Hamilton is a better driver than Senna. He will always be remembered as the greatest no matter how many wins or championships someone else wins. IMO of course.

To me that's what makes him great ... he didn't win a ton of championships ... but all the best drivers list him as the best driver. And personally, fun to watch. I just liked him. Couldn't really root against the guy. He's not in my top 5 ... but I'm just a spectator. I can see how he gets such accolades.
