I got a 2015 35i and have not been able to get more than 11-12mpg in city driving in comfort 90% of the time. I may punch it every now and then but otherwise stop and go driving.

I read about some people having issues w sensors and faulty readings. Is anyone else having such terrible mpg in city driving a 35i? Should I be surprised?

That does not sound far off if you punch it once in a while and are frequently in stop and go. Look at your average speed, and see if you are able to clock better than 20 mph. Also, has the car broken in yet? For most people it takes a good 1-2k miles before you reach that level.

When I first go the car and experimented more, I recall ruining 10 mile 24-25 mpg drives at average speeds of about 15-20 mph by punching it a few times, and brining it down to the mid teens (diesel).

I just recently did a trip to the Eastern Shore of Maryland from Columbus, Ohio about 1000 miles round trip. I was able to average 25.2 mpg during my trip in my 16' 35i xdrive.

Color me impressed!

2015 X-5 xdrive 35d Fuel mileage

I like your comparo charts-
My 2015 X-Drive 35d with 3,000 miles took a Round Trip from Texas to Kentucky and back over the memorial Day weekend. Total mileage traveled was 2100 miles. 95% of this mileage highways on cruise at 80mph in Comfort Mode, the remaining 5% in Sport mode around town. Slowed by highway construction and holiday wrecks in 4 locations on the return trip. Computer told me I averaged 31mpg going to Kentucky, and 30.9mpg going back to Texas. Beats hell out of my Tahoe's 17mpg at 80mph
Only complaint is the seat coolers are mostly useless in the X-5. The Tahoe pumps A/C air through the seats. Mucho Mejor!

Just completed a holiday road trip to North Carolina and I was able to get the following mileage on my way back from Chapel Hill, NC to Columbus, OH (458 miles)

Here's a shot of my trip computer and my X5 at a rest stop near Pilot Mountain in NC.

Is everyone only going by the trip computer or dash display? I've found actual mpg by fillup is around 1.5 less

Rolled up 7403 miles from Sacramento-WashDC-Atlanta-AustinTX-Sacramento getting 34 heading east 32 heading west. Really exploited EcoPro headed east.

recent mixed driving mpg. about half highway and half city traffic. plus cold winter reduces mpg. youll also see the difference between idrive and actual mpg from the two pics.

My 15 35d is similar, dash MPG always "inflates" a couple miles than actual.

My 15 35d (close to 30K miles) so far consistently has about 30 MPG average speed 35-40 MPH with mostly city/commute driving.

Leo, looks like you use some app from the 2nd pic to track actual MPG. What is it? So far I just use Miles driven since last filling divided by Filling gallons if I want to calculate actual MPG.

The app does the same but it's really good at tracking all car related expenses. I use it religiously. It's called road trip

Just realized there's an MPG thread.

Sharing my MPG numbers from my recent July 4th road trip from Brooklyn to Bangor/Bar Harbor area in Maine and back again. I'd say the trip was 90% highway with almost no traffic and then heavy traffic in some sections of local driving.

Car: 2017 xDrive35i
Start mileage: 1768
End mileage: 2981
Mode: Mostly comfort with sport mode around some of the curvy local roads
Speed: Driving around 70-80mph on the highway and sticking to within 10mph of local speed limits.

Had a car of 5 adult passengers, trunk full of a few backpacks and a suitcase.

Filled up 3 times this trip, each tank was between 22.4 to 23.4 MPG (trip computer results) with a range of around 428 miles before the fuel low indicator appeared. Actual mpg results were around .5 below the trip computer results, so not bad overall for such a big and heavy car.

Projected 597 miles remaining just after a refill, I was driving at the speed limit for the past 20 miles or so because I knew I wasn't going to make it to Portland without the reserve light coming on.

Beautiful area. I did the same trip last year for my friends wedding at Bar Harbor.

Here's my contribution.

Helpful to those curious about what mpg an X5M could provide.

This was my entire trip from Brooklyn to Cape Cod (7 days) including highway, traffic and local driving. I also had a family of 4 with a trunk full of stuff.

This was driven purely in Sport+ mode and what I consider to be "normal driving"
Not bad considering how much power it makes (over 600hp). I did the same trip last year and I got about the same. If i really tried to milk it and drove like a grandma the entire time I might be able to get another 1-2mpg but it wasn't worth it for me. I like to stretch its legs from time to time lol

That's not too terrible for constantly driving in Sport+, would've expected lower.

How's your gas mileage driving 100% local in NYC?

Better than I expected. Dammit, wish I went for a slightly used X5M now.....

Averaged 13.8 MPG on my last tank.

I got about 400 miles on a full tank.

I drive the car primarily in sport and do have a bit of a heavy foot, however I do get better results from time to time if I'm driving in eco or comfort.
