Installed a hitch and comfort access does not work now

Hey everyone i have a 2015 X5 with comfort access installed. Today i got the car to a local bike shop and they installed a tow hitch for me. I was watching the guy work on my car and i saw him disconnect the sensors on my bumper and the two taillights on the car. Now after all was installed i tested the sensors and the backup camera, the back up sensors and the taillights. All worked great but when i came home and tried to lock the car with just touching the handle it would not work. I had to lock it with the button from the key. Further i can not open the tailgate and i can close it from the button on it but not lock it. Does anyone have any idea on what might have gone wrong there? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

was the ignition on during install? perhaps battery got low and turned off some electronics.
i'd give it a day or two and see if it goes back to normal.
also, is there a chance your key fob battery is low?

No the ignition was not on also the battery on the fob is not low. I was looking around and it seems like there is a sensor to open the back hatch with your leg. I bet we messed up something with that sensor and it shut off the entire comfort access.

The X5 doesn't have the rear tailgate leg sensor even with comfort access. Neither of my X5's had it.

taking a stab here in the dark for others to opine on. Could it be an FRM issue too?
On past cars, comfort access issues and issues with locking has been related to FRM.

Did they install a wiring harness too, or just the mechanical hitch parts?

there should be a sensor within the rear bumper for comfort access for rear detection. possible the installer may have disconnected it and forgot to connect it back.

Sounds like the opposite from the scan verbiage. Installer probably pinched a wire hard enough to cause a pwr/gnd short vs forgetting to plug the sensor back in, which would throw an open circuit error.

Kind of a "smarty pants" answer on my part - but a root cause analysis would focus on:

Today i got the car to a local bike shop and they installed a tow hitch

The fact that you had some biker install a hitch onto to a car is questionable.

Well i spoke with him made sure he is knowleageble. Plus my local dealer told me to go somewhere else for that. And installing the hitch does not seem to be such a big deal from what i read around. I am going back tomorrow so we are to look for the pinched wire. Hope it will work out ok.

No woreing harnesses were installed just the hitch.

FRM is not present on F15/F16/F85/F86. FRM/CAS functions are all in BDC_Body.

Digging up an old post as a PSA. I lost CA after a hitch install. I thought it was a coding issue. Turns out I pinched the bumper aerial CA wire between the hitch bar mount and the frame resulting in “Comfort Access Limited” and CA not working. The wire was smooshed to smithereens. This in turn shorted the CA wire which matched up with the fault I saw in ISTA. Seems obvious now and this thread helped point me in the right direction. This should provide resolution and hopefully helps others.

It might be a good idea to unplug the CA wire from the aerial prior to hitch install to prevent this.
