I bought my acura brand new. The moment I got it home I removed paper plates and frames. First time I took it in for service, it came around and had the dealer plate frame on the back. I asked them to remove it before I drove it off. They got the hint and didn't try that again. I don't blame the dealers. Most people just don't care, and it's free advertising.
Same thing, I remove them the day the car comes home. I personally just put a tinted glass over the plates. My little brother got me a "carbon fiber" frame so I installed in the front.

Pepboys sells these very thin black rubber edge guards for license plates. They are like $4. I have been using them for years.

California plates have the URL to the DMV website at the bottom of the plate. I use a frame to cover it up because I think it looks hideous.

Well, there was a legal requirement for them......in the EU.

I personally don't, it's just another form of (inexpensive) customization, no biggie.

Wow why would the dealer stick their frames back on? They weren't there in the first place for a reason.

The people who I described are clearly not car enthusiasts, more like poseurs.

If not having a plate frame makes you feel superior to those who do, then by all means - take yours off.

Question: If you have two cars and neither has a plate frame, are you twice as superior?

It's logarithmic. So by not having plate frames or front plates on our two cars, I'm 16x cooler than most other locals.

I have a BMW slimline black frame on the front because the dealer gave it to me (the OEM BMW one, not a "dealer" frame); and a plain black one on the back.

Personally could care less what someone has surrounding their plate, though I do laugh at some of the frames I see.

Not planning to sell mine anytime soon. Too much fun!
Even if I only keep it for 10 years, my plate will end up being pretty cheap.

I bought all my Infinity's from Sewell, M37 for my wife, an EX for my daughter, and a Q60 for me. My 135 is my play car.

Now that's a definite head shaker which is understandable once you see the drivers face.
That is probable the single ugliest/dumbest thing you can do. As a European, I can only laugh.

How is that a status symbol? Is that like leaving window sticker on the car after you've bought it?

I guess it's like not only did you have enough money to buy the car but you had enough to fly to Europe to go on vacation and drive it around too.

What I'll do going forward is post my airplane tickets on the windows of my car. People would be equally unimpressed. It's amazing how sad some folks are. Anything to get attention, right?
