It's more planted and sportier. It also handles significantly better.

well, you know what I mean.

If you want your $70k luxury SUV to absorb all the bumps, then you go with 18s with donut tires.

But I agree, the BMW staggered 20 inch setup is a fantastic handling experience for the car. I know, b/c I have it on my X5. P1et

But not everyone buys an X5 and want good handling.
Or have extra moolah to add dhp

I drove both full DHP (non-sport) on 20's vs. base with air suspension (3rd row seats) on 19's. Comport wise it was very similar, with the exception of small road imperfections (like large road joints), which were more pronounced with DHP, probably due to 20" RFT. But the cornering was significantly improved with DHP probably due to toque vectoring and active anti-roll bars.

People buy an X5 with M Sport and 20s/21s because it handles so great?

in today's world...yes. Any 4500 lb vehicle counts as a great handler, so long as you have Conti DWSs on 20s or 21s.

People want an X5 for many reasons but some prefer how it handles on 20s.

Otherwise, I'd drive a 911 GTS every day of the week if I could.

Conti DWS? Ummm nope...

That tire will be too soft compared to a true summer tire.

On our 2017 35D we got DHP on 19" all seasons. I think it rides fantastic. It's eerily flat in the bends and corners, and it's remarkably comfortable on the rough roads we've got around here. This combo delivered exactly the ride we wanted. It's met all my expectations. DHP was totally worth the money.

My dad has these 18s on snow tires that he uses during the winter. It's the most comfortable ride ever. So much has to do with the smaller wheels/high profile tires...

I see what's going on here now.... some people want their X5 to ride smooth and bouncy like a Buick/Toyota and others like me want their X5 to drive flat in all corners and with crisp handling.

Of course. The term "ride quality" is very subjective.

He really likes it, although all electric doesn't kick in the second the car needs to do serious work. And what do you mean about rebadging it?

Mine is M-sports (without suspension upgrade) with 20" rims on DWS, and the loaner had regular luxury line wheels with not much options ticked in and no it didn't have DHD option.

That 20min drive from the dealer to my office, it blew my mind how comfy X5 could be. I never thought my car was uncomfortable, but it never felt soothing and always thought road noise was quite excessive. But this stripped version of loaner X5 was totally different car.... it was quiet, silky smooth on rough pavements.

Is it a rim size or tire or both?
I love my car but I would appreciate it more if it was quieter and smoother.
In my experience with the F15, The 19-inch wheels are the best option for comfort with or without the DHP. The 19-inch wheels also work really well with the M-Sport Adaptive suspension. Over rough roads, even daily driving, and road noise the difference is significant. I switched my 20-inch to 19-inch for that reason. I do miss the looks of the 20-inch wheels though, the lower profile and staggered width look so much nicer, but the difference in comfort wasn't worth it for me. I use my X5 as a daily driver. I guess for the 21-inch wheels, the DHP must be a pre-requisite.
