What the shift knob looks like without the cover

Comparing the old cover with the new ///M cover

All finished!

Another view

New 599M wheels ready to go

One down, three to go!

Comparing the 469M 20" wheels with the new 599M 21" wheels

///M Performance Brakes (yes, I did clean them up)

Looks good with the new setup!

New ///M dead pedals with the brake/gas combo

Looks aggressive with the new look

Atomic,
Where do you get that shifter cover?
Do you mind sharing the part number?

Ben, I got it from iND but they got it from Getbmwparts.com. I'd just get it directly from Getbmwparts.com instead. You can either use the CF trim piece or just stick with the stock black chrome trim piece. You only need the shift knob cover.

Thats the thing. I just want the plate cover.
I don't need to change the shifter cover to CF or Black Chrome.

Somehow I doubt BMW sells just the cover. I'd have gotten if they did. Seems ridiculous to have to pay $200+ just for the cover.

I have searched and searched, BMW don't sell is separate or anyone selling it.
It is small thing, but very intimidating.
At first I was thinking to get the black chrome since mine is just plain silver, but BMW don't even sell just the black chrome cover. I need to get the whole shifter assembly.
Even if I decided to do that, that's mean I need to get the iDrive controller in black chrome. I know that it won't be the end of black chrome things.

@atomic80, your car looks fantastic with the upgrades!! I just got mine tinted today. The 22" wheels/tires come on Monday. I can't wait to share how it looks with you guys! Also going to code in a few days with golovan's help once my OBD2 cable arrives - should have came today.

I have an extra black lacquered shifter cover if you want to buy just that from me? At least it's just gloss black instead of black chrome so it'd at least go a bit better with your iDrive controller.

Sick photography man! What camera are you using? What feature is used to capture the headlights so cleanly like that without light dispersal?

Absolutely stunning setup, and Awesome photography.

I'm in love with your Space Gray and kinda regret on my Mineral White...(sigh) Nice 599M wheels and M Break kit too.

Would love to meet up with you and your ride if it's possible.

I live in Richmond, have been to Bellevue shopping a couple of times with my wife before. Let me know if you are interested meeting up.

Any chance you can upload a link for 1920x1080 wallpapers of your pics? They're just perfect X5 images for computer wallpapers. I have a new appreciation for Space Gray after these pics, lol. Thanks!

Absolutely stunning photography.. I want to know what camera you are using as well. Did you get the entire shifter just for the cover? I want to get the cover as well. How is the ride with 599?

No problem, let me know if you change your mind. I have no use for the trim piece. Maybe I'll try sanding off the paint to get to the CF. LOL!

The key is to use a circular polarizer which effectively cuts out light dispersal quite well. I was using my Nikon D4S with the 24-70mm lenses.

Ray, would love to meet up with you sometime soon. Always a pleasure meeting other X5 owners. I come up to Vancouver occasionally but I'm sure we can work something out. Just send me a PM. Don't regret your color choice, it's a personal choice. I haven't seen mineral white in person yet though.

Let me know which one and what email to send it to.

Nikon D4S. And I didn't know that the shift knob cover was separate from the assembly. I wish there was a way to just get the shift cover by itself but it sounds like that's not possible.

The ride is actually not bad. I believe that I'm getting a little more road feedback compared to before.

Thanks. So I figured I'll buy that camera as well and take some cool pics of my x5 too. So I went to amazon.com to check the camera.
With that money, I can buy 599 wheels and shifter and I will still have cash left for a 300$ camera?.

I work professionally as a photographer which is why I needed the D4S. It isn't cheap but just to demonstrate that you don't necessarily always need a $$$ camera to get some good content. I took these with my P&S Sony RX100.

Nice pictures. It is the craftsman, not the tools that matter.

agreed...I noticed that your P&S images don't have as much depth of field (focus in front, blurry in background) as the DSLR.
