Not hard to guess which wheel I got since BBS only has like two designs that are meant for SUVs. BBS SV 22x10.5F (Load rated at 925kg or 2035lbs per wheel) 22x11.5R (Load rated at 995kg or 2189lbs per wheel) These are the second highest load rated wheel made by BBS. Each wheel is load rated to 2100lbs which is higher than even their forged LM's, RGR, which are load rated about 1700lbs per wheel. The higher the load rating the stronger the wheels are. Some load rating comparisons to give you an idea where these rank... 20" BBS LM 750kg or 1650lbs 20" BBS FI 700kg or 1540lbs 19" BBS RGR 730kg or 1606lbs 20" BBS CH-R 740kg or 1628lbs Forgeline Competition Series wheels 955kg or 2100lbs Forgestar F14's 690kg or 1520lbs Most inexpensive wheels fall in the 590-690kg range. I had a nice conversation with someone at BBS USA and he was my source for the BBS data. He mentioned that although some of their wheels are *only* rated at a certain number, it doesn't mean that its at the limit at that number. They determine what load capacity if required depending on which vehicle the wheels are meant for and they test up to that number. The wheel could go significantly higher. If the wheel is made to fit onto a NSX for example there is no need for it to be rated high enough to be mounted on a 5,000lbs SUV so they only test the load up to certain point. Just putting this out there because a 700kg load rated Avant garde rep wheel isn't the same as a 700kg load rated forged BBS wheel. My point is living in NYC and wanted to go with a 22" wheel setup I made sure i went with the strongest wheel that I could find. It just so happens it also one of my all time favorite suv wheel as well Alan Last edited by Alan l.; 06-04-2015 at 08:57 AM.. |

Yes i was worried that the 22's would look ridiculous on the X5 being too big in person but it doesn't. Looking at the X5 now it just looks right with this size as if it should have came this way from the factory. The ride quality got BETTER compared to the 20" RFTs significantly as well. Even the wife commented how the car rides smoother now with the 22's which was a nice surprise. I am willing to bet that those with 21" RFTs will ride much harsher than 22"s non rfts so might as well go 22"s. More tire options and they cost less too.
I was on the fence about ordering these or the 21" 599M with rfts but glad i went with these instead. The 21's would have cost me more money, have a harsher ride, tires that will wear out much faster (pzero are none to last under 10K miles). Still love those 599M wheels but they are also very common now for the F15 which is a negative factor for me. Alan

I've had my 599M's with those PZero's for a while. I'm at about 18,000 miles now and they're fine. Even the ride is fine too. After I had a bad experience with a flat in the middle of nowhere with no spare (McLaren has no spares), I'd much rather live with having RFT's. I actually had a small tear in the tread recently and was able to drive my X5 to the shop to get (surprisingly enough) only one tire replaced. I found out from that experience that once you get a flat with a RFT, you're supposed to replace that tire rather than plug it up because the sidewalls are designed to be used only once apparently once there's a "flat."

I guess you are the exception because there was a thread on here where guys had the 20" Pzero's on the stock 20" 469M wheels saying they had horrible tread life. I have those same pzeros on my 20"s now which was why i was reading up on it.
I purposely spec'ed my build with the spare tire in the back because i knew i would go aftermarket wheels one day without rfts. If you think your setup now rides nice you'll be amazed if you slapped on some non rft's Michelin PSS's on your car. I still love those 599M wheels though. I was this close to pulling the trigger on a set! Alan

Maybe one day I'll try non-RFT's but definitely not if I have no spare. I was stuck for 11 hours in the of nowhere when that happened! I was fortunately with a group of others but it took forever for a tow truck to get out to me.

Minimal if any because the overall diameter should be the same as the stock wheel setup. There was also no additional weight penalty either because i weighed each stock wheel and BBS setup. My scale wasn't the most accurate but the 22" combo were either identical weight or 3-6lbs lighter than the stock 20" 469M wheel/tire combo.

Wheels look good, how flush did BBS make them for you?

Decent. They only come as ET40 up front and ET38 in the back. In my pic i have a 12mm H&R spacer installed only in the back. Still debating if i need a spacer up front.

I"m following what others here are doing. 39psi up front and 42psi in the rear. Slightly higher than factory specs since there is so little sidewall.
When are your wheels coming? Alan
