Are you happy with your truck?

So, I'm rather incredulous that I'm even asking the question, but .. are you happy you bought an X5?

This is my 6th BMW (that was a surprising number to me too). An E46 323i, an E46 M3, 2 x 135i, an original X3 and now an X5 35d. Until the X5, I didn't have a single problem. Build quality was top notch, no unexpected service issues, nothing.

Then this thing. Don't get me wrong - as a car, it's fantastic. But in the 3k miles that I've put on it, it's been in the shop 3 times. It rattles like a f*cking tin can (the first two visits were to fix loose trim). Now, something's making it open its trunk whenever it feels like it (including while driving).

Is this the law of averages catching up to me? Is the X5 more problem-prone than other models? What's your experience?

I think I have an M3 problem.

18000 miles on my 2014 f15, & I only went to the service for a loose stitching on the rear seat, one month after I got the car.

out of curiousity, when was your x5 built? could it have been one of the first few, where maybe it had some fitment issues?

Well, my display had to be replaced because it showed "No Signal". Then few months later, it happened again and it was all due to malfunctioning cables or something similar. I need to take it back to the dealer because I hear a lot of rattles coming from the back as well.

My E70 had issues with seat, window seals, and trunk area creaking and popping when going over bumps.. I had it for 3 years and up to 20K miles.

My F15 which was built in March 2015 is perfect so far with only 2,500 miles.
No noise what so ever and solid. I'm curious to see how it will go after 3 years

Am I happy with my "truck"? I am.. it is fast, it looks great, I feel very safe in it, it drives smooth and comfortable, yet at a push of a button, it drives like a sports car.

I Took delivery 1/26/2015 - 5500 mi - and not one issue. I do chuckle every time someone calls it a truck.
A real truck is an F150 not a an F15

20K miles on mine in 10 months and very happy that I chose a new X5.

No real major issues, just some problems early on with it not shutting down when pressing the start/stop button but that was resolved with a software update.

No rattles, done some coding to get it how I want it and it's almost perfect.

I've had mine for over a year. No major problems, just the occasional issue with the AC and one problem with the fuel pumps. Other than that it's all good.

08/14 build. Starting to hear some rattling inside after 11 000kms. Otherwise happy. Except for acceleration....Surprised by what I would call turbo lag (considering it has three). All good according to my dealer. Looking into Hamanns chip tuning.
My 7th BMW. Most pleased with the E46 M3. Fond memories.

I'm happy with mine, although I've had some issues with it...vehicle has 37k on it now (just over a year old). Issues to date are:

-failed EGR temp / pressure sensor (twice)
-failed mechatronics (transmission)
-multiple cluster failures (lower section of cluster won't display)

BMW has been great to deal with, but the vehicle has been in the shop a little too much for my liking. I'm glad I purchased the extended warranty, given the miles this vehicle sees.

Very happy with mine. My production date was 2013/10/30 and I have been driving it for 1 1/2 years with zero issues about 15000 miles

Built 4/2015 and with 900 miles on it so far this is one of my favorite BMW's to date.

Past BMW's include

2000 323i (Manual)
2009 335i (Manual)
2013 535xi (Auto)
2014 550 (Auto)
2015 X5 35i (Auto)

I would rank this equal or maybe even slightly ahead of my 335 which I loved at the time.

I had mine for about 7 months now, and so far, went it for a check engine light, it makes creaking noises everywhere, dash area creaks, trunk rattles here and there loudly, ac vents creak when it's hot and you turn on the ac. other than that, it's fine.

I know...seems like my right elbow has a permanent groove now.

The only issue that had to be fixed with my F16 is a trim piece on the rear driver door was loose and rattled when I went over bumps. They fixed it.

When my E71 was pretty new, they had to replace the whole DVD/radio/etc stack because it was baking itself up somehow. That was definitely an experience.

My E70/E71/F16 have been pretty good quality. My E53 on the other hand... I had it for 7y though and stuff seems to fall off when you have baby/toddler hands/feet everywhere.

On my third X5 (two E70's and 1000 miles on F15)...will likely order a 4th in 3 years when this Lease expires. Love them all...no issues beyond typical stuff. My last E70 never had a single issue...only visits to service were for oil, brakes and tires.
