So it sounds like the rattling issues aren't uncommon. Are they solvable? I worry that every time they touch the trim, they mess something else up.

Happy, but a little skeptical
this is my second BMW with problems - 1st was a 2007 335i cpe; way too many problems. Got rid of it before warranty died on it this one - problems so far 1.) camera system had to be replaced 2.) pano roof stopped working 3.) going into the shop this Friday for brake issues (have a lot of pulsating when i depress the brake pedal) 4.) trim piece issues (multiple) 5.) display did not cooperate and stopped working and then started working again 6.) trunk refused to close automatically - apparently there will be a recall on this.

800 miles into a '15 M Sport..loving the car. No issues to report (crossed fingers). Honestly this car is everything i wanted in a car..good performance for a SUV, reasonably fuel efficient, safe for the kids, hauls a lot of stuff, sporty, great tech, loving the styling, build quality seems good, and love the mocha interior package. Happy every time i enter the car. No regrets whatsoever.

I have had two issues with my E70 (2011)-1. oil light coing on erratically anywhere between 1000 and 6000Kms. Never got to the bottom of that one.
Also, failed adaptive headlight unit: $2000 later, under warranty, it was replaced. Now awaiting my X5M!! |

Ecstatic thus far. My folks have had some issues with their 5 series sedan that made me a bit wary (poor dealership service, engine malfunction within the first 4 years) but my experience thus far with my X5 has been spectacular
Hope to go through many more of these Last edited by darrvao777; 06-08-2015 at 01:11 PM.. |

I think it's the luck of the draw. I've got 6000 miles and haven't had a single issue. No hiccups. No error messages. No rattles. Nothing. It's now been used in winter conditions down to 10*F and summer conditions over 100*F. It's been on highway roadtrips and cruised over 100mph with ease. It's been launched a few times and is quite impressive. And it's been offroad. (Nothing serious, but still, rocky and enough to induce rattles if there was going to be any). Perfectly happy with it. It's everything I expected it to be.

My March 2014 build date X5 35d has been generally terrific. Only a couple of minor rattles detract from an otherwise perfect experience. It's the most efficient, quietest and most comfortable vehicle I've ever owned. Surprisingly, it's not bad in the fun to drive category, either. The stump-pulling torque of the diesel and 8 speed trans are a magic combination!

I've been happy with it, but my trust seems to be dwindling...its currently back in the shop (again), this time having both turbos replaced. One had a failed boost actuator, so I pushed my dealer to replace both. Approval came through my BMW Canada on Thursday...now the waiting game begins on the turbos, of course they're on backorder for two weeks. Sigh.

8 months into ownership of a F15 35D, though only 3000 miles. No major issue so far. Other than the rattle. First I was happy the car is so quiet, then the creaking slowly started. Especially when it's hot and AC is on. I get the fact that temp differences makes things expand and contract, but boy the X5 really makes this more apparent. With the run flat tires' stiff sidewall, it really doesn't help either. Honestly I don't remember my subaru had this problem Maybe it's because the trim pieces are built to tighter tolerances on the X5 , which makes the creaking worse. Every little twist and shock to the cabin causes a creak somewhere. Maybe it'll settle after a while ? I'm hoping it will, because this does make an otherwise well built car seem .... well for the lack of a better word ...... cheap .

@cobra006 - agreed. And, having driven an X3 loaner and now in an X5 loaner, I can say that it seems to be an issue with the X5. The X3 was dead silent, no matter the washboard-ness of the road I was on. The loaner X5 (a '15 35i with 2k miles on it) is the same as mine - not awful, but enough to trip up my OCD, and make me think this is just how the car is.

getting better with each day.
I've had more than my share of issues with the X5. In fact in the first 6 months of ownership I truly regretted buying it, especially since it spent over 5 weeks in the shop (on and off). A lot of my frustration stemmed from service department itself who were extremely incompetent at communicating. I'm now at 31,000km and as the unpleasant memories of the early days fade away I am happy with the X5. |
