Running Boards Removed / Rockers and Mud Flaps Installed
So, looks are subjective and I understand some love the look of the OEM boards and some don't. I liked them a lot so I didn't delete them when ordering my X-Line. Right before the car came in, I read some posts here about rubbing your leg on them. Sure enough, this bothered me and the wife since we picked up the car. I found a set of new take off rockers and supports on eBay and went for it. I also had the mud flaps still new in the bag from my dealer that I got when I bought the car. Today I did the swap. I actually like the look just as much without them and I really like the mud flaps as well. PS: if anyone is looking for a set of new take off boards and supports... I know a guy selling some...

Wow! I really like those painted rockers. I'd be interested in doing this to my 35i. While I do like the look of my running boards, their really not that functional.
How much for parts and install? |

Well, I got a deal because I found mine on eBay as a take off set. (They are what would come standard on an X-Line if you do the running board delete option.) Before I found these, I got a price from getbmwparts.com. All said and done for new would be $835 shipped. However, I got these for $365 shipped on eBay. I'd keep an eye out on eBay and craigslist for the same. Lots of guys are adding the boards so take off rockers must come up from time to time like the ones i bought did. The tough part is most X-Line cars in the US will already have the boards. The rockers with the aluminum insert would have to come from a running board delete X-Line and most of them are special ordered... and a guy who special orders running board delete isn't likely to add running boards after ordering...

Just an FYI, this is not an "easy" swap. The two front clips that need released are a TOTAL PITA and it's very easy to scratch the running boards, your doors, or front fender. If it wasn't for those two clips on each side, I'd have been done in 1.5 hours. It took me longer...

It's the releasing of the clips that was so hard. Trying to force something between the board and the fender bottom to release it is tricky. Especially with the front fenders being plastic. They can crack...

Opening up partial of the fender liner also help. Never yank things out with new cars, since a lot of the parts are plastic now.

How to remove those worthless oem running boards
I removed them as well. They were getting dangerous for my mother who is in her 70s. I made a video on how to remove the running boards in case anyone else wants to do it. I hope it helps.
